A Reverie

They are building on the big patch of waste ground directly opposite where they were, seemingly they paid 40,000 or so pounds just for the land!! Its a large futuristic place and they are working till midnight every night on it I would reckon, when finished it will definatley be the number one place to eat in N. Goa ( and likely the dearest) I,d be surprised if its ready before Dec. though

Is it Au Reverie or A Reverie? Was walking down Holiday Street last evening, and saw the huge construction - wow, its really massive and looks a bit out of place. Thought it had a very bali-type look and feel. When its ready, its worth trying out. There is another restaurant in the same premises where the A Reverie used to be - and guess what? Its called A Reverie too! So in I popped for some loverly chilled Kings and a nice steak :D - and met the new manager-owner - a local bloke called Lawrence. Anyhow, Lawrence tells me that he runs the restaurant now and the entire kitchen team is with him. Well, the food was good and there were quite a few customers there, so its true, I reckon. And I also heard from Lawrence that the new massive construction is in violation of the CRZ regulations - and possibly might be demolished! Wow, imagine spending all that money on a slim chance! I wouldn't! Anyhow, apparently, there's been a lot of greasing the palms to make this happen. Typical.
I know I haven't posted too much before, but have enjoyed reading every post here and just want to say:
Fiona - you are doing a fantastic job
And the other HT'ers - thanks for allowing me to share your memories and experiences and for giving me a chance to try out some of your suggestions
Two weeks from now- I will be in Phuket and can compare Goa and Phuket and give you all the details - if you guys would be interested. Dont want to bore anyone... :?
Gotta go now. I can see a chilled Kings beckoning to me. :wave

Went to the original Au Reverie twice at end of Nov and beginning of Dec and found it to be a great as ever. As said before all the original chefs etc and the food was stunning as always. I really hope it stays that way and the "new" one doesn't affect it at all - I'm looking forward to going next year.

When we were there in early December the owner of the new restaurant said they used to operate the original site but there had been a dispute with the landlord and he had started operating the business himself - stealing staff and menus. I have to say the food was only average when we ate there - mistakenly believing that nothing had changed from the previous year.

She decided to build a new place directly across the road from the original and is determined to put it out of business! She showed us around and it was spectacular - it will be one of the flashiest restaurants in Goa, without a doubt.

I'm pretty sure the original site is called Au reverie and the new site is A Reverie.

It will be interesting to get updates from HTers visiting in January.

Never sure who to believe, but spoke to the guy who is in partnership at the old Au Reverie, and he said the original managers lease run out, there was a dispute from them about rights etc which went to court and the old managers lost. Thus leaving the owner of the land (who lives behind the restaurant) free to re open. All staff and chefs have stayed at the old place.

But as I said you only go on what you are told!

There was a notice in the local newspaper a few weeks back regarding the use of the name A Reverie. It warned suppliers of crockery etc with Co logos embossed on plates, glasses, napkins that if they supplied goods or items printed with the the name A Reverie they would be infringing on copywrite and patents. The notice was posted by the advocates of
A Reverie (the original - now with new premises).
It's all very confusing but it seems to be the usual story of somebody making a sucess of a business in Goa only to have it snatched back by the owner who thinks that they can take the good name and business.

I recently tried A Reverie (the new place with original owners) and must say that the new location is gorgeous and the food was as good as ever. My only criticism would be regarding the service, it was absolutely rubbish for the price you pay. I'll put this down to the fact that they have had to employ new staff and have not had time to train them. In the old location the service was always excellent - in fact you didn't even notice the waiters, if they don't rectify this problem soon I think they'll loose a lot of customers......rich Indians demand the best service!!!

The AU Reverie in the old location has now changed it's name to "Le Jardin". At least it stops all the confusion!!
