Not been there but flown over enough times on my way to Skiathos.

Have you read "Its all Greek to me" by John Mole ?
The book is a great read and explains a bit about island life on Evia.

Otherwise look at the Pelion, its very unspoilt.

We stayed on Evia in our motorhome when we we went to Greece overland. It is a huge island with vastly varying scenery. We camped on the beach at Krya Vrissi on the east, near Mandoudi. Lovely beach. Around Stomio and Kymi there are some good beaches on the east.
There really is not a lot written about Evia from people's personal experience. I guess you should google!!!

Hi driventodrink

From what I understand, you don't get many tourists on Evia. Foreign tourists that is, but it gets hoards of Greeks from Athens and Thesoloniki as they own a lot of holiday homes there. From what I have read it is a very big island though so can take it. Great thing about that is you won't have British pubs and fish and chips all over the place.

Hi Guys, thanks for taking the time to reply. I am in the process of reading John Mole's book "It's all Greek to me". I can't help laughing out loud at some of the stories he tells ! My husband is Greek so its a bit like being in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" at times ! ! I have been googling, & have found a few sites, still struggling to find estate agents though. I guess the best thing to do is get over there & check it out. If any of you do hear of anything to do with Evia, do remember to get in touch with me. I really would appreciate it.
Thanks again.

We went to Evia 2 years ago when they first started taking British tourists and we stayed at Amarindos next to Eretria this was our first time in Greece but the people we met on holiday said it was like Greece twenty years ago. Up until 2 years ago only the Greeks themselves went there. We did not have a car so did not see much of the island but we did go to Athens which took us about 2 hours on the bus using the bridge it would be quicker if you crossed on the ferry.
Cheers

Hi partyanne, thanks for that. Did you like Evia (what you saw of it!) Are the beaches any good etc ? We are hoping to go at Easter with our 9 year old. Trying to find self-catering accommodation as we prefer it. Did you find it easy to book your holiday ? We will be flying from Scotland so it is always a bit trickier. Sorry I am asking so many questions, just trying to get the best idea about the island before we go ! All suggestions welcome !

When we went you could only fly from Glasgow with Air Scotland everyone in the hotel was Scotish and the greeks loved the scots. The beach was shingle and as we went in October there was a lot of rubbish on the beach which they say comes from the main land. We loved the people the hotel was small ish and family run which was great but some of the restruants did not .3have English menues There were very few shops I liked Eretia more as it had lovely tavernas by the sea and some nice shops and pavements which was a luxury to us. We had allways been to Spain before so I found it very diffrent. We had a good time

Cheers for letting me know that partyanne. We want to have a couple of days in Athens to visit family, then go to Evia. Eretria was one of the places I was looking at, so good to find out you liked it. We are thinking of hiring a car so that we can see more of the island.

Good idea we were told that there were some really nice beaches on the otherside of the island. We were also told that the capital city was really nice. Have a good time.
