CALLING ALL RESIDENTS HELP...
My dad is going to PDLA Bourganville Playa in a few days in Fanabe he says there is a BARCLAYS ATM just across the road from the hotel and he has been trying to find out if its connected with the British BARCLAYS BANK ATM thinking he can leave his cash in his bank and withdraw it from the Barclays ATM near the Bourganville Playa as aposed to changing it in the UK to Euro's
HELP PLEASE as barclays say its not one of their ATM's can anyone confirm or deny this is it a BARCLAYS BANK ATM
Sorry to say this branch has closed
We have been to Fanabe area several times now and we never take much cash as we always use the ATMs.
Dont know if this is applicable to Barclays customers, we are with Nationwide building society (link etc) and have never had any problems.
We were last out in Tenerife in August an used the ATM near the Pueblo Torviscas complex (near where the old Torviscas market was).
many many thanks have just phoned him and told him really appreciate your help
We use ATMs all the time out there
^^ lol
What???
I hope I can help. I work for Barclays in the UK.
The San Eugenio branch may have closed (I don't know), but there is a Barclays branch in Las Americas (Av Bruselas) and one in Los Christianos (Cl la iglesa).
Like most banks, the Spanish arm of Barclays is an independent operation, so you can't just walk into a branch and expect them to be able to call up your details like you can in the UK. However, you should find that they will be friendly and do all they can to help, including calling Barclays in the UK if needed.
You can use the Barclays ATM network in Spain, depending upon which type of current account you have you may or may not be charged for this. In reality, it will use the Link ATM network like all other ATMs on the island, so it won't debit directly from your current account but go through link to do this. The only advantage of using the Barclays ATMs is that if you have a problem, it would make things a lot easier to resolve as we could do it internally.
So... in summary... yes you can use the ATMs, and the bank branches albeit in a limited manner. When I travel I use the ATMs wherever I go, rather than travellers cheques and the like. It's just easier.
PS... whichever ATM you use, ensure that the card slot has not been tampered with in any way. If you suspect something, please call the bank and use another ATM. There is a higher incident of devices in use in Spain to capture credit cards and numbers (lebanese loops, scanners, etc) on all ATMs. The slot should look like those in the UK, with nothing over the top of them, coming out of them or obscuring them.
Hope that helps.
