The last I heard the opening date had been delayed from December til January or February. We will be there in 2 weeks and will be going to After 7 (as usual) so will find out then.
hi Gemma, we didn't care much for after 7 - thought it was overpriced and over rated, the most expensive meal in Goa. The other one we didn't like was Stonehouse - poor service, over loud music, steak [yuk] all I could smell was cat pee[polite], 2 wild dogs roaming round tables and when waiters tried to move them out with a stick they started nipping them and barking at customers- time to get out. I'd rather poke my own eyes out than go back - ha ha but we've had many a laugh about it since. All the other meals we had were super. Everyone's different and I believe you should always try.
But as you say if we all liked the same places it would be a very boring world
What other restaurants did you like.
YES OAP I did smell something rotten at the stonehouse too ..we just moved to a new seat ...I must say the grub was good and I loved the loud music...
It was packed and the only seat we could get were next to the loud speakers. The music was so loud you could'nt hear yourself think. We asked them three times to turn them down a bit but they completely ignored our requests.
We didn't enjoy our meals, The steak was tough, the fish dish I ordered was bland, probably the wrong choice, but first impressions leave a mark.
I don't want to put anyone off, you must decide for yourself.
We are going back in 3 weeks time so will give it another try.
Hughsey.. if you sit upstairs and at the side that overlooks the road the music is not sooooo loud up there ...
Hi Gemma, we liked Bon Appetit, Kim Faa, Tib Kitchen, Casa Seashells, Bistro,Relish, Cactus,Delhi darbar, Inferno, Floyd's hut. Will try some different ones next time.
Have to agree about the Stonehouse.Ate there last year and we were not at all impressed either with the food or service.Got a bit too big maybe.Much the same opinion on Bom Successo except service is better.
Hi, one of my favourite places to eat - BomSuccesso - never had a bad meal yet, it is very clean and the staff and owners cannot do enough to to make you welcome, and they always remember you when you go back. I love the variety of fish dishes and it is fresh from the market everyday. My fella enjoys the Sports bar upstairs where you can watch all the live footy games, with air con and also pool tables.
Well it is all about opinions. However agree about the sports bar enjoyed a few cold ones and some pool up there on our last trip.
I used to like the Stonehouse but did not enjoy the meal or the service when I was there in October.
And on the same subject, we tried out Cactus Shepherd's Pie - where we found that the fish rolls had more flour than fish and they had run out of beef at 730pm that evening, so we could not try 30% of the dishes. No real great ambience, and found that even the Goan sausage was tough and stringy. Will avoid eating here in future, but will deffy go here for some drinking, a kingfisher beer at Rs 45 or so (big bottle) is nice, nice, nice!
Went to Viva Goa too, and asked to go to the loo before ordering, as my outlook on the world was pretty dim, being under great pressure. Pretty bad, and close to the kitchen which is very unhygienic - the kitchen, I mean. Put me off entirely. Walked out of loo, and under tremendous pressure (no smiles here!), convinced unsympathethic other half to take me to some place else. So off we went to After Seven, where the toilets are to die for. A paradise for any woman - in fact, I just posted the info under the thread 'Good Toilets Guide'
Oh by the way, met the courteous Leo at After Seven, whom I asked about Posh, as we were keen to try it out. There has been a delay in the restoration process - they are restoring a 150 year old Portuguese villa at Nerul and want to do it carefully. He is hopeful about opening in another 2 or 3 weeks, so when I go back to Goa, will check it out again.
