I have just received an email from Thomsonfly saying that they will be contacting people in the next few weeks about paying the extra tax on flight-only sales. This is what they say :-
How will I be able to make the additional payment?
Thomsonfly will process the payment online via the payment method used to make the original booking. Customers wishing to use an alternative method of payment must contact us with that alternative within 48 hours. Of receiving their e-mail / letter. Full contact details will be provided.
The email says they are contacting people in order of flight date , with the whole process completed by the end of February.
The other booking was for 4 Easyjet flights in July. I have no idea whether I have paid the increased APD as the price on the confirmation is a total with no breakdown of the actual fares and taxes. I have checked their website and clicked to 'pay my outstanding APD' but it just takes me to the confirmation of my booking so I am assuming this increase has already been paid. All very confusing

We booked a scheduled flight with bmi, not bmi Baby, to Las Vegas on 1 December, flying out in May. So far I haven't received an email from bmi re the APD. Perhaps they are only applying it to bmi Baby flights and not full fare scheduled ones?
I'd check with TC, I go out to Cancun with them next week and when I contacted them they told me they were absorbing the cost of the new APD for me (2 people, long haul, in premium) I must admit i was more than a little relieved to hear that. Call them, it may be something they're doing as standard to all pre booked holidays.

EasyJet slams APD hike as a "double whammy"
Almost 10 million passengers are estimated to be liable for paying additional Air Passenger Duty from today even though they booked flights before the December 6 announcement.
The claim came from easyJet which described today's doubling of APD as a "double whammy for consumers and the environment".
For easyJet, this means around 800,000 individual journeys fall into this "trap".
Around 90% of easyJet's passengers have already paid the tax either online or by phone and the airline has made arrangements to take the remaining payments at the airports prior to check in.
As only a relatively small number of passengers are still yet to pay the extra tax, the airline does not expect any disruption at airports over the next few weeks and has introduced special procedures for assisting passengers during the transition period.
The airline's chief executive Andy Harrison said: "It is almost unprecedented for the Government to demand additional tax on something that has already been bought and paid for - but that's exactly what they have done with APD.
"EasyJet takes the issue of aviation and the environment very seriously and we are already making huge efforts to ensure we are as environmentally-efficient as is possible, but APD is the wrong tax for the economy and the wrong tax for the environment. It penalises all airlines and aircraft equally, when clearly some airlines are much more environmentally efficient than others.
"The Chancellor has come up with a tax that will do nothing for the environment while penalising the travelling public even more."

We're flying with EasyJet in June and haven't yet received any emails from them about APD. On their website there's a prominent link saying "Pay your outstanding APD here", which takes you to your login and then your bookings, but there's absolutely no mention of APD there.
I'm just wondering if they're only asking passengers who are flying soon, and leaving those with later bookings alone in case anything changes. Anyone got any comments on this?
When did you book ? Is it possible that it was already included in your total fare cost ?
We booked on 12 December so you might be right, although we don't remember anything about APD on the invoice. Will dig it out and have a look. I suppose it might just have been hidden in the taxes and charges.
Hi, We booked with Easyjet end of Nvember for flights beginning od October. We got a request by email in January asking for an extra £5 pp to be paid by the 15/01. We,ve paid this. Havent received an email as yet does anybody know if we will have to pay another £5 pp.
I booked my flights about 2weeks ago with esayjet but dont recall seeing this APD on the booking website, does this mean i will have to pay outstanding fees?
Tatty, because you only booked your flights in January, the extra cost of the APD will have already been included in the total price you paid.

Like the e-mail I received today, they will automatically deduct the required amount from the card you initially bought your flights with!

I have now received the email from Thomsonfly about paying the extra APD. Because the original card I used is no longer valid, I had to ring them to pay on a different card. This was via an 0870 number and entailed a 10 minute wait. Apart from that everything went OK, and they have now emailed me with a revised booking confirmation.
Hi, I have also just received an email from thomsonfly, they will take the extra from my original card - well, at least thats sorted. Just a bit less to spend while on holiday, nevermind!!
I got an e-mail from First Choice re- the increase from £5 to £10 each for our flights. It says if we don't give them permission within 14 days to take the money from credit/debit card we won't be allowed to take our flight. Now as we booked online and it's a ticketless flight I'm wondering if my pc had been out of order as sometimes happens, and unable to get e-mail would they have followed it up with a letter or just cancelled.
we had the same e-mail last week,we just clicked on the link and gave them permission to take the extra,we then recieved another e-mail saying payment ok,
Just for my piece of mind.
They are only charging the surcharge on to flight only bookings !!!!
I think this is unfair.
Should you get a new card then the numbers are not the same, any attempt to charge would have been rejected.
