My daughter is very pretty and tall and blonde. The last time she came to goa with us she was 13 and got too much attention off all sexes who called her barbie and tried to touch her hair and take pics.It really frightened her and put her off goa.Now though we are going bck again and i doubt she will put up with this kind of hassle.Having said that we wouldn't be a stupid as to go topless, if we wanted to do that we'd go to Bendiorm.

We were in Candolim last year with my two teenage daughters. I was unhappy with the behavior of some of the Indian tourists. There seems to be large groups of men trawling the beach looking for western females to ogle at. On a number of occasions a couple would break from the crowd and just stand by daughters staring. I just told them to F---- off and they seemed to get the hint. My daughters were'nt that bothered and thought I was being over protective.

I've seen "Uncle" from Big Banana grab cameras from these perverts and threaten to chuck them into the sea - they always waltz off with heads low.
We had an incident once on Baga beach with a group of young lads....click.....click, the usual thing. We ignored them, walked past and then as luck would have it two tourist police came walking towards us so we stopped them just asked them the time and for directions to Calangute steps - while pointing at the lads in question who obviously - as we'd planned, thought we were telling the police about them!!! They scarpered double quick.
Also had photo's taken at the gate of india in mumbai, we were both fully clothed at the time and it was a woman taking the pictures - she actually re-filled her camera with a new film roll - she must have hade more pics of us than she did of her own family.............bizarre!!

I had this problem to a certain extent. It was worse for my sister. It was hard to keep my cool at times. Such a shame really.

We had this last year on a ferry near Tiracol fort, an indian guy asked got he stern NO but did it anyway, the deckhand saw this and threw his camera overboard.

He was just about to get a Bolton kiss and I think the ferry captain could see my mood changing.

Stand up to these morons and they do get the message. I was told if you do have your photo taken then the picture is your property so I may start collecting camera's.

I have had this every year too, I have longish blonde hair and am only 5'2", I'm certainly nothing special to look at, I just stand up looking the opposite way or if they follow me into the sea stand with my back to them, they don't like it because they can't get their piccies. .
The first time they did it I felt like a film star ha ha (I don't anymore it gets on my nerves), should have signed autographs for them. I'm going back next week I'm ready for them this year!!!!! 8) Oh just remembered the first year I kept on getting asked by Mummys to have my picture taken with their babies????

We had a weird incident in Kerela. We had people coming up to us all the time asking to have their picture taken with us, so when another asked it wasn't strange. However, this guy then bought over his friend and announced that his friend knew the Minister of Irrigation for Utter Pradesh. :?

He asked if he could have a picture of his friend with us to show his family that he knew very important people. When we asked why he thought we were important people he said it was because we were Western and white and therefore very well educated and influential.

We also saw a painting of an Kerelan priest that had been made a saint and he had been painted with skin as white as mine. When we asked why he had been painted that way the nuns told us that they aspire to have white skin and as he had been made a saint he would now have white skin.

Do the people in Goa see us as very important people, or are we just the freaky tourists?! We noticed that all the Indians portrayed on the adverts had very light skin and there's a lot of skin whitening products, so is it the pale skin that is the attraction?

I can understand them wanting pictures of the topless or scantily clad (not saying it's right, just I can understand it) but not people like me and my OH in our holiday gear - even though we are both stunningly good looking of course!

If anyone comes up to us now and asks for a photo I just politely say no and move on.

They are going to have a feild day with me in november .....Im going mad in my old age ..and plan to put red streaks in my blonde hair .....

The truth is I would never say no if an indian ask me can they have a picture taken with me ....I know there is nothing bad in it ...my hubby has a lot of tatoos and they seem to draw indians wanting a photo with us ......however hubby wont let the young lads on there own take our photo ...I dont know how many times he was ready to give out a knuckle sandwitch because you and I know they just snap a picture and think you cant see them do it ...colleen

We were on the beach at Baga in December and a chap was taking a photo of his little boy, aged about 2. He kept telling him to move to the side and then a bit more and I wondered what he was doing and when I looked beyond the little boy, he was trying to get a shot of a woman sunbathing topless. I thought it was sick that he would use his child to do that. Also, whilst waiting for the bus back to the hotel, an Indian family went up to an English family and asked the daughter (about 13) to hold the baby for a photo. We all thought that was strange and couldn't understand why they would do that. If they had ever tried to take any pictures of me (not a pretty sight) I think I would have told them to f off.

We just got back from calangute yesterday and this happened for 2 weeks solid, but not with me wife with my 3 year old son. Every day id be asked if they could pose with him on the beach or pick him up, I always said no he is frightened ( he isnt but i dont want pics of my son with other men).

They seemed to love him and constantly touched his cheeks or ruffled his hair, I think his little all in one swimming suit was an attraction too.

Whenever we played in the sea together we were a magnet, but the most annoying part was the camera/phone pics taken without asking. Very ignorant!

i think its always a good idea to create a ruction if this happens to you............ok they may not be bothered but i think a lot of the men will be shamed............. to do nothing gives the impression that you dont care..........our first trip a slimy git tried to get a pic of me ( how sad im 42 and all though i like to think im rather 'well preserved' i was old enough to be the his mum) in much the same way as has been described.....my o/h went absolutely b*y ballistic created a huge scene to the level where crowds were gathering, the offender got the message & slunk off, i was mortified  but if it has made one slimeball think twice about doing it again all i can say is good! i also have blonde hair and have found it to be a major pain in the rear in many countries i have travelled to (aswan in egypt being most notable for the most overt oggling, leering i have ever encountered on the planet - i was wearing cropped trews & a long sleeved jacket when this was occurring)

Hello Millym

We were in Sharm El Sheikh in January. My two teenage daughters were pestered constantly, so much so it ruined the holiday. Although it was annoying when we were in Goa, they felt alot less threatened and were happy to go the beach on there own, not so in Egypt.

I am a rounded woman and was asleep and was woken up by someone taking my photo looked round and there were two guys sitting next to me... so i think its just for bets sometime to see who can get most photos.a fat lady = 10 points ...or slim blondes = 50 points, ect lol.
I wasnt happy and told hubby and the shack owner who said sometimes they make out that the girl in the photo is thier girlfriend or holiday romance. (clearly not the case with me)
You would think that now tourists are more common that the novelty would wear off by now. and I dont think its very nice when it happens to you.

The trouble is, is that the biggest increase in Goan tourist figures is for short break Indian tourists from mostly rural areas outside Goa Those tourists, often men in large groups, have no conception of the European lifestyle and Goa is their first introduction to it. I walked olong the beach this morning from the steps at Calangute to the River Princess, in that walk I passed at least a half dozen females of all ages all topless walking the beach as well. By this I mean walking not going from their sunbed for a dip. They were obviously attracting a lot of leering and staring from the indian males. India is a mainly Hindu country with very strict rules and conduct expected from their females and this will be those mens first sight of such behaviour. I've talked about this problem with lots of Goans I know and asked them their thoughts on the matter. Those not directly employed around the beach dont approve of it but realise it's beyond their control (although it is against the law) but most say that the Tourists from out of state cannot comprehend such behaviour and regard the woman concerned as no better than whores, hence their conduct towards these women. I hasten to add these words are not mine I,m only repeating them here to try and explain the disgracefull conduct of a large proportion of Indian tourists towards European females in general, that they see in Goa Alan

Very well put Alan!
I am no prude but it makes me very angry to see certain females totaly ignoring the Customs and Culture of the Country they are visiting. So giving all western females a bad reputation.
Buy a guide book, or have a look at the Foreign Office web-site and you will find information on dress code for females in Goa.
It would make things better for everyone if we all observed it :D

Although I have not had anyone take pictures of me, I have had people staring at me and asking me if I like them (usually local lads around the same age) and also ask me to go out with them on a 'date'. Although I always say no they seem shocked at this and expect me to anyway. Not sure if this is to do with the reputation western females have over there but it is very annoying when you are expected to do this when you just want to enjoy your holiday as they do pester a lot. Personally I think it is just so they can say they have an 'English' girlfriend because I always cover up, even when on the beach !!
