I have almost decided on a deal from Thomson to stay at the Perla Marina
at the end of March when we celebrate our 45th Wedding anniversary.
Can anyone tell me about the hotel and if it is in a good location for bars in the evening please?
We are just a little concerned that there is no transfer from the airport, as we have never had to find our own and would be grateful for any suggestions please.
Regards Sue
I came back last Friday. When my daughter came out to stay with me for five days ,she used the bus.Just outside the airport terminal is a bus which frequently runs into the main bus station. They have ample storage at the side for cases etc.
From the main station you can get a bus to Nerja for approx 3 euros.Again, loads of room for your cases.Lots of people do it this way.
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary!!!
Left this for a few days for other people to answer you, because it is about 10 years since I was last in Nerja.
The hotel Perla Marina is situated next to the beach and whilst I walked inside it one day, I'm sorry I can't remember too much about it apart from the terrace on the back which literally sits on the beach.
There was only another hotel near it that I can remember and it was a Riu hotel.
There is/was a big market that takes place not too far from the hotel Perla Marina.
We stayed in the hotel Jimesol and our balcony overlooked the spare ground where the market is/was held"¦worth a visit Sue, but again I can't remember the day(s) the market is there.
The big problem we had was the one-way traffic that merged and came past the hotel, (Chaparil) it was noisy and non-stop like silverstone race track....but you will not have any of that because of the position of the Perla Marina.
Most of the attraction of Nerja takes place around the Balcon de Europa, think of the "point" in Benidorm, but a flat square with the church, hotels, bars, horse drawn carriages, artists and so on all gathering in this area"¦and of course the spectacular view from the balcon.
It is an incline from the Perla Marina whichever way you chose to go into "town", but there are bars along the way and some lovely whitewashed, narrow cobbled streets that are typical of Spain, if you go beyond the tourist trails.
We used to walk past the Hotel Perla Marina, beside the beach on a dirt track and over the bridge with the river (stream) and onto Playa Playazo...that was sheer bliss, there was only one complex and one beach bar there...things may have changed now, but it is still a nice flat walk.
As far as transfers are concerned, have you considered "Resorthoppa", they have quite a following in the Costa Blanca forum for the transfer from Alicante to Benidorm....and they do Malaga/Nerja.

Here is a map (which is not complete) but it will show you where the Hotel Perla Marina is, in relation to the Balcon de Europa...and it will show you the one-way traffic system that I refer too, which obviously hasn't changed in the last 10 years.
I'm sure when you are sat on the hotel balcony, looking up at the stars and gazing on the sea, sipping a nice glass of vino with your hubby, then life will feel good and your anniversary will be one to remember.

Sheila M if you can spare the time would you be kind enough to place a review into the hotel review section please. You can access via the link given above.
I usually meet up with Sanji on the Benidorm forum. As usual you have come up with some useful info Sanji and I will follow up some of your suggestions.
I have done some research since posting my query and have now booked for March 26th.
thanks for the congratulations Sanji
Regards Sue
We (my girlfriend and I) are thinking of going to Nerja around early June as Monarch are doing some good flight deals to Malaga and we have found a very reasonable hotel. I am interested in any more details on the bus service as the available flights get into malaga aound 9pm so allowing for baggage collection it could be 10pm by the time we get out of the airport. Anyone know what time the buses to Nerja run to?
I think the last bus from Malaga main bus station to Nerja is about 23.00 hours. The buses from the airport to the bus station run very frequently and don't take long. You could check it on the net just to be sure? There should be some up to date bus time tables on the Tourist Info sites.Just looked for my timetable but I must have left it there.
You'll find the bus timetables on these sites busta:
thanks sheila and U2fan thats just the info I needed, it will save me a taxi fare so thats great.
