Hi! My family and I would like to spend 12 days in on one of the Cyclades islands in Greece. I used to go to Paros more than 20 yrs. ago and Corfu', but know little about the other islands...We have a 14 yrs. old daughter going with us, so it cannot be too quiet and yet would like to be where the sea is warm and the water is clear. What would you recommend? We are spending four nights in Athens and would prefer something not too far from there, i.e., Kefalonia or Corfu' are too distant. Thank you! Does it have to be the Cyclades, the Saronics are much closer to Athens. If you want to drive Tolon would be a convenient resort.
Naxos is dead easy to get to from Athens. There are a good half dozen ferries per day, and they take approx 3 hours on the HighSpeed catermerans (albeit for about 50E) to around 6 hours (Blue Star) or 7 on one of the GA tubs.
We find Naxos about the right mix, as there are plenty of quiet places, but nightlife is available when we want it. And the beaches on the west coast are IMO amongst the best in Greece.
Of course, there is also Paros if you fancy returning there. From Naxos/Paros, any number of islands are within a couple of hours (Ios, Amorgos, the little Cyclades, Mykonos for example) which opens out other possibilities if inclined.
As rdv points out, there are a similar number of options with the Saronics.
