IMHO,
When in Turkey do as the Turks do!
Surely an important part of any holiday overseas is to absorb yourself within the local culture?
Find a local bakery and ENJOY!
oh i do,i eat anything at least once, from crocodile to zebra steak on my travels, but the place we are staying at is geared up for the russian tourist and the food does get a bit same old same old,as for local bakery's not a chance, leave the hotel and there's nothing but a few clothing shops,
Hi, bibbs. Can't see any problem with the peanut butter. I have know people take all sorts of stuff in the past - including instant custard so that they could buy cake and then make custard in the hotel room and have an afternoon snack! Personally, the traditional Turkish breakfast is my thing but each to his/her own.
thanks for that, think i just may smuggle a jar in with me this year,i'll have to hide it from the kids tho or it'll be gone in one sitting
i often take jam, marmalade, tea bags etc with me and up to now have had no problems, so im sure you will be ok, although you will be best to put it in your suitcase with all these new regulations that have come out
thanks,i shall do just that,
I actually like to try the "local" fayre when I'm away.
I wouldn't feel like I was on holiday if I had English food every meal.
I usually take a few tea bags out & about with me, as I can't stand that Liptons stuff:yuck . That is an English brand (right?) where in England do they drink it? Because they don't drink it where I live!!! & I've never noticed it for sale (but I'm going to look next time I'm in Sainsburys).

So is it ok to take alcohol into Turkey. Going to Holiday Village and I know they wont have cider so im thinking of taking a few cans with me. Is this OK
Hi laudan, We always buy two bottles of spirit on the plane to drink during the holiday and we've not been stopped. In Turkey, I have purchased cider in a restaurant and it was really nice !!
Taking into considerations the weight restrictions ... I see no reason to stop you filling a suitcase with Cider if you want .. Like many others we take in a couple of bottles of branded vodka from the uk with us . A wee 'sundowner' on the balcony is nice ..

you could have a problem with cider in tins in a suitcase if it is gased type due to the pressures in the hold they could explode, im not sure so check with you airline
Thanks for the replies, I have packed some cans before when travelling to other countries and had no problems with them exploding, put them in a plastic bag and rolled clothes round them. I drank Cider we bought in Turkey last year and it was OK but never saw it for sale in shops and I dont thank being AI they will stock it at our hotel, if they did I would gladly buy it. For anyone going to the PP this year I will be the one sitting in the same clothes all week - but I will have something I like to drink.
Strong teabags and Marmite, of course. I don't like the Liptons stuff either. I'm still looking for the Guinness Marmite.
0o0o0o0oo0 wats this new regulations about i always take loads of bacon and sausage and cheese and a few other bits mainly for my mum as she lives there and misses bacon and sausage so i take it for her never had a problem even last year just after the bomb scare thingy wen i had to taste the babies milk yuk yuk yuk i was even going to take a bit extra this year as my mum can sell it for me at the local hotel make a few quid on it and cider i .love my cider specially woodpecker but only the irish bar sold it so i took a few bottles of vodka from duty free for my tipple on a nightime cos vodka seems so expensive over there and the red bull is even worse jojoxx
Like some others who have replied to this post, why on earth would you want to drag all these things with you for a week or two week holiday. Turkey has some of the best food in the world and you can always find something tasty to have for breakfast, dinner etc.
or just stick to the turkish food thats what you should be travelling to these countries for to sample all there culture
Why on earth people can be bothered to take food with them i can never understand, breakfast is so cheap in Turkey and I save long and hard for my annual holiday and i'll be damned if im going to be cooking
Off to Marmaris tonight and the Hotel Owner has asked me to take him some bacon. Bought 3 kilos to take in the cool bag, which I will put into the suitcase.
Is this okay or are there any restrictions in carrying food into Turkey?
Many thanks for your help.
By rights, you shouldn't take foodstuffs (particularly meat) into Turkey. However, lots of people do; I do too!
On one occasion I was stopped at Dalaman by some officious customs man, and he demanded I open my case. It was FULL (3 months stay) of steak, bacon, sausages, ham and gravadlax.
Amazingly enough, he prodded his finger at the packets, said something inaudible, and let me through! Maybe he was more shocked than me!
You should be OK with your bacon. If the worse happens, just plead ignorance.

I could remember reading something on here before about carrying meat into Turkey, but it sort of went from my mind until now. Not leaving until late afternoon, so I thought I had better check.
Wish me luck lol.
