Does anyone know if there is an ATM onsite? Also, what money exchange facilities are there on site?

No ATM machines at the Playa Pesquero, there may be one in Guardalavaca but not sure, there is an Cadea which is open until 10pm for you to change your money it is situated at the main entrance to the side.

The best thing to do is take £ sterling - sorry but Scottish notes are not accepted, use the safe in your room, each safe is electronic and you choose the combination.

Do not take travellers cheques as they can not be replaced in Cuba if they are lost. Make sure all notes you take are in good clean condition with no tears folds or rips.

You can pay for trips from your tour operator using a credit card but it must not be affiliated to any US companies, Tesco, Barclaycard are fine, Egg used to be, but I think they have now been bought out by an American company.

The PP is brilliant you will have a good time.

Please do not tip in British coinage, the staff find it very hard to exchange, tip in Cuban peso's.

There is an ATM in Guardelavaca, can't remember what cards it takes though, sorry. We took very little with us when we went cos of the AI thing and used our credit cards to book trips and stuff

Hi, was wondering if anyone who has stayed at this hotel before would give me any info or tips! Have read the reviews, mostly good ones so i am looking forward to the holiday! A few little questions!

What is the bathroom like? Is there bath or shower?
Is there an area best to ask to stay in, ie close to pool etc or are they all close ish?
Do you pay for what you use in from the mini bar?
What time does the hotel entertainment finish?
V.silly question, but are the curtains in the room ok, so they let all the light in in the morning (light sleeper!)
Last one, how far is it to places ie dolphins, any near by villages, shops etc.

Hope someone can answer my questions!!
Thank you :D

hi ooemaoo,

its now i'm seeing your post re playa pesquero,

we went last august - fantastic! the showers are in the bath, the mini bar is completely f.o.c. and replenished daily, the curtains allowed for a blackout style room, the complex is absolutely massive, but i dont think anywhere was out of the way really.

there are loads of golf buggies running around and will take you any where you wish.

we didnt venture out of the complex other than to havana on a trip, so cant comment on how far things are away , however i dont think that there is much nearby.

hope this helps,

get back to me if you have any other questions. :wave

My daughter is a veggie and when we booked the a la cartes she just picked a menu from the veggie restaurant and it was served along with our meals.

We had a very interesting trip to the cigar factory which led to a strange encounter in the town, but as one doesn't know who reads these forums that is all I can say. I did check with others who have done the trip and it is not a common occurance so I think we were lucky to see a little local colour.

If you look on google earth the co ordinates for the hotel are
21.05.45.44 N 75.56.00.28 W.
Just to the south west is the "marina" from where the catamaran snorkelling trip took off and to the east is an inlet which contains the dolphinarium.

Hi, me and my family are travelling to the Playa Pesquero on 20 May 07. We received a letter from First Choice yesterday informing us that the hotel will be carrying out maintenance work on the swimming pools during our stay, on a rotation basis. They advise us that there will be at least 2 swimming pools open at any one time. I am confused, I thought the Playa Pesquero only had 2 pools anyway. Can anyone confirm this? I know the hotel boasts the largest pool in Cuba - one of the main reasons we selected this accommodation. If this large pool is closed it could prove very busy in the smaller pool, as I understand this is a very large complex with over 900 rooms. Has anyone else received this letter from their travel agents? Are we entitled to request a change in accommodation? Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

The PP has technically three pools, though two of them are sort of connected by a very small wall - you can't swim between the two. Both of these pools (or one pool with a divider) are very large and closing one half will not present a problem, as I would expect in Jun the hotel will probably only be about 50% occupancy - as it is low season. the main guests being Canadians who holiday in the winter time to escape the cold.

There should be no problems with one pool closed at a time, their is also a sports pool, all are located together.

Hi
We are going on Jun 16th we got the letter today. I thought it had 3 pools according to this link
It probably won't make much difference to us we didn't use the pool a great deal last year on holiday in Crete and may just go to the beach.
Let us know how you get on :D

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me here I am booked to go to this Hotel on 29th August Can any one give me the hotels E mail address as I would like to mail them regarding room request. Last year in the DR we must have had the only hotel room that did not get any sun at all in the 14 days we were there. Also we have booked with Thomsons as a package but they are now telling me its a "build your own" and that I now have to request meals and seats together separtately whats happened to the good old fashioned package holiday. Even tho its a Thomson holiday we are flying from Manchester with Thomas Cook whats the seating like in relation to Thomson bit disappointed as Thomson are doing more leg room as standard.

Any replies would be appreciated. :D

Only 8 weeks to go :P

There is a shop in guardalavaca where you can buy nappies, didnt see any in PP itself when I was there. You can also buy beach toys there too but I would recommend buying them in asda and taking with you. We have just booked to go back too PP next may and I cant wait! The most friendly place I have been to, Ever! Went antigua last year and it wasnt a scratch on PP.

Hi,

Has anyone used the baby/kids club? Would you recommend it? What hours does it operate? Does the baby club actually take babies? Some sites say from 2, others up to 4? (My littlest will be almost 1).

Thanks for any help.

Hi wonder if anyone can give me some information. We are due to fly our to this hotel on the 29th august and I have read somewhere that the bathrooms do not have doors on !!!!!!!!!!!!!only a curtain a cross please someone tell me this is not true. also my 15 year old son is sharing our room do they put in another bed hope so as I dont really fancy having to share a bed wth him.
Reply
The bathroom does have a door but no lock!!
The curtain you refer to separates the vanity area from the bathroom if you have a premium room. This area has a sink meaning you can have a shave while the missus is having a shower
There is no sink in the bathroom.
Can't help about the beds I am afraid although we did have a sofa thing maybe that was a fold down third bed? :?
