Just checked it again to get the exact wording and even worse it's describing Mobor (5 mins from Cavelossim) which apart from one more restaurant the Fishermans Wharf I don't think has changed since we first visited in 95 :? I just read it and

I have just tried to read Bombay Talkie by Ameena Meer, and found it to be the worst book Iv'e picked up in a long time , I gave up a third of the way through.
Then I remembered someone had mentioned The God Of Small Things, what can I say , it must be one of the best books I have ever read, so moving one minute I was laughing the next crying, a sensational novel, can't think why it took me so long to get round to reading it .For any Indophile a must.
Just my personal opinions :)

If you are interested in the background of the caste system, Indian politics, criminal system etc. try reading "In Spite of the Gods" by Edward Luce.

Definitely an eye opener!

Sankars in Candolim (acron arcade) and the Oxford next to the church in the middle of the road, upstairs above Malini Ramani, both have sections for indian authors.

Well the first 100 pages were great I was really enjoying it however as it is 900 pages long and doesnt fit in the netting at the back of your seat on the plane thickjock put the book at his feet and left it on the plane  No doubt it has now been sold at a market stall somewhere, so I have to re order it and read it on our next trip, I'm determined to read it in Goa though I also want to carry on reading it now hmmm decisions decisions....

I'm back with lots of new books from the list, but sadly Goa Freaks isn't among them :( did anyone else find it :?:
Most were found at the small bookshop in Colva, a word of warning the owner is a great salesman , and you are bound to come away with more than you intended ! he will also do his best to get hold of requests. Here's one he found for me----
The Great Indian Novel--- Shashi Tharoor--- reinvents India with a dazzling marriage of Hindu myth and modern history.
Many thanks to someone on the Forum for mentioning Shiva Moon, I am now listening to this, and lots of other CD's by Prem Joshua, great background music for reading about India (IMO).
