Hello all, had a great relaxing very very lazy time this year. In all the years we have been going I must say this has been the hottest and most humid. Most mornings started off looking as though it was going to break into a bad thunder storm but as the mornings progressed the sun broke through and averaged 40c each day - evenings were very sticky with little breeze and was a joy to catch the breeze left by a passing truck or bus when walking down the main roads.
Had a great time in the shack with quite a few HTers in, Billybluenose / Al38 / Paulisreal /GEC / Lez, there was also an Indian family in from Dehli who checked out info on the forum who was on a 6 day break, and for those who called in over the last few months (Ganesh says a big thank you).
Most of the above we met at Lazydays along with Polly50 / Robbie / Linb / and Shermina. Was a good night and nice to meet some old faces again.
The 'charadeee' do at Ma Tai with the hypnotist was a good laugh and a very good turn out (what was the final amount raised ?). Chatted with a long time HTer, Bigknickershaz and had me in stitches with her Lancashire accent (Shaz, it's pronounced CUK not COOOOK ).Still don't know who Ron was sat at the end of the table ?
Like I said very hot and didn't get up to much (been there done that) so just chilled out, except for my 3 hour look round Panjim seeing things I have missed over the years.
As stated in other posts lots of new shops and appartments have opened or are still being built, but as for being too commercialised - I dont think so, and it doesn't spoil it for me - if you can't accept the changes or progress then don't go.
Tried a few different places to eat this year with Flambee coming out tops, also went in Casa Sea Shell / Tony's Place / Floydds 1 and 2 / Navelli / Teema / Mario,s / The Bistro.
Billybluenose and his other half (Alan and Jackie) started a cake club in the shack bringing something from a small bakery every other day which was a welcome treat to end the day !! so we returned the favour on there last day with a special one from Sweet Art in Candolim (I could live in there !!)
Had a good laugh one Sunday morning seeing the workers from the River Princess staggering around the beach drunk from recieving there wages the previous day - beach police issued some very good slaps to 3 of them, could have done with police issuing slaps to a couple of loud mouth berks, one in the Sports Bar who had a paddy after coming in to watch the delayed showing of the England game (I dont think he knew the score),but the barman told him it was 3-0 ha,ha,ha so off he stormed ranting and raving !! and the other 'gob' of the day was at the hypnotist night who just couldn't tone down his mouth - very sad.
We had a 3 hour delay going out from Manchester (Monarch) but flights /food were fine (was asked for the 1st time ever for accomodation vouchers at check in). No delay coming back, but they couldn't get the monitors to work so no films to see, ended up reading the paper 7 times, and counting the rivets on the aeroplane wing (why do I always get the crappiest seat ?)
Thought Dabolim was pretty good this year but still room for more improvments.
Sunset Hotel very good and have booked in for next year, hope the next 12 months come round quick !!
A big thanks to Sleep r Us for the bottle of wine you left for me and Dee - very nice
So to finish off..... a very nice 2 weeks with good food (no stomach problems at all ) nice people to chat with (Al38 can talk for England) and a great relaxing break again, hope to see you all again next year.
Spike.
Who ME quiet as a mouse
Really enjoyed reading your report Spike, and so glad you enjoyed your holiday , as for bigknickershaz I remember her from when I first started using this forum a lot and she was always on it with great info , I am glad she is okay.
Al did all go ok at Dabolim - I saw the screen with delays for Gatwick ?
Sounds like you had a great time Spike. I can recommend Sweet Art too, I actually stay in the villa opposite the shop, fresh cakes and pastries on the doorstep mmmmm
Spike, 40 min delay boarding so it run into 90 Min's to take off, tried to catch you at the gates but it was a bit manic at the time.
Anyway, it was really nice meeting everyone, pity none of you could keep up with the drinking pace. Me and Keith were the very last to leave at around 2.30 (well you know you've outstayed your welcome when you're handed your bill without us asking for it ) Very good night though, well done to Rob, Lin, Shermina and everyone else involved.
We have booked to go back to the sunset in nov (hope we get the same room). There was a lot of change buildings going up and such since we were there in 2005 we found that the beach sellers were a nuisance and found the pool at the sunset was a haven for peace and quiet some days. The sea was quite rough on numerous days so did'nt go for a dip too often BUT we are looking forward to nov 2007 what ever changes in goa. .
Yeah, agree about the beach sellers but you get used to them and a quick 'no thanks' moves 'em on.
Never seen so many strawberry sellers in my life !! had a couple of boxes and very nice too. Then there was the mobile library - poor lads arms must be 6ft long by the end of the day ! another new one was the guy selling dvds - anyone willing to buy beware !! some have subtitles you cant turn off and the films play slightly slow, also mine should have had 4 films on one disc but only had 3.
We fly out again next Monday 16th. I will have a day at Ganesh shack probably, very nice people, made us very welcome. Does he have his flag flying at the shack now?
The library sellers that bought back a few smiles know what you mean arms like apes. The river princess was quite busy sand and water pumping out nearly everyday.lots of welding being done.Did you think it was quite on the whole we did, lots of taxis and tuktuks lying idle. Our only dissappointment in resturants was at the Stonehouse waited ages for the meal(they were quite busy) and it was yuk when it come. Our favourite was in J Js top of our beach road to the left on the right hand side.
Tried the Stonehouse last year and seeing it this time full every night, thought no, I don't want to sit and wait for 2 hours again !! Food was okay before but nothing better than other places so can't see what the big draw is to the place.
Pleased to see someone else agrees with me about Stonehouse being crap
Good report Spike lad, just about covers everything i would have written and as i cant type very fast it would have taken me a fortnight Glad you enjoyed yer wee treats from the bakers. Only delay we had with flights was from Gatwick up to Edinburgh... 2 hours Thanks for the dvd showing me on jet skis. And you can tell Shirley that i can hear her on it shouting for me too fall off Not happy at all and im reconsidering my invitation to the big Wedding next year at Ganesh shack
Its good to know you had a good time Spike ...all I can say is its never too hot and if it gets too hot have a sounds like you all had a good night at lazy days ..
Gail & Ray
Oh I forgot to say the Guinness and wine at the shack were also greatly appreciated.
More than welcome Gail - hope you cracked a few more bottles open !
sounds like you had a great holiday Spike. Like the cake club idea! And coming home to nice weather must have softened the blow!
Couldn't have wished for a more friendlier bunch of HT'ers in the shack.
