Just a thought...have you had a stool test for Campylobacter?

No. I was diagnosed by a doctor in Goa and he said it was Gastritis.

It is common for anyone getting this to develop IBS afterwards. Symptoms now being mild cramps (no diah') although a few weeks ago cramps were worse. Doctor did not reccomend a stool test although this might be in order.

I got campylobacter in Turkey one year....no sickness..just dreadful stomach cramps..and the rest SURE I got it on the plane going out with inflight food. It continued for weeks after I got home...some days fine....other times just severe stomach cramps. Eventually had a test (I'd already been to pharmacist and a doctor while in Turkey who put me antibiotics) Appears there is only one antibiotic that will clear this up...Erythmocin I think...I'll have to check my 'supplies' that I fetch back from Goa A nurse who used to go to my gym said that now they do a camera down into the stomach now if you have this - to check all has gone

I've had campylobachter from a hotel in Paris. We were put up there when the flight was delayed. There were 48 of us on a trip and several of us got it although I was worst. I was very very ill with severe diarrhoea and stomach cramps, until they did a stool test. Once it proved that is what it was I was given Erythromycin which cleared it up really quickly. Don't want that ever again. I would ask your doctor if you can have a stool test, it takes a few days for the cultures to grow.

It was my other half that had the stomach problems, he had the common old travellers tummy which was held at bay by Imodium but it didn't get rid of it. A few days after the original bout it flared up again but was twice as bad, he was up all night visiting the loo 12 times in 8 hours poor thing. We left it about 12 hours to see if it had passed through his system but to no avail. In the end we decided that it obviously wasn't going to clear up of it's own accord so called the doctor. He gave him 3 difference sets of tablets, 1 to kill the bacteria, 1 to regulate his bowel and a probiotic type thing to return his gut to normal. Within about 24 hours he was feeling a lot better and within about 48 hours or so he was back to normal. Just wish we'd called the doc earlier, he had it for about a week in total. The doc did say it was Gastritis but it doesn't sound anywhere near as serious as yours.

He also took loads of Diarlyte type stuff and drank loads of Gatorade to help replace all the minerals he was losing.
