hi

im not sure where you get a bus from but there is one daily, we got a taxi from akyaka to marmaris last summer as we were staying in akyaka and my mother lives in marmaris it wasnt too expensive and is 20 miles away. akyaka is lovely but the beach isnt that big, ive added quite a few photos in the gallery so have a look. we usually eat at the krystol restaurant at the top of akyaka due to the good quality food, lots of freebies and excellent price. the other restaurant thats good but a bit more expensive is the last one on the riverside i cant spell it something like asmasbashi. the few along the beach are more expensive and food is only average. have a look at this website

If I remember correctly (from previous years in Akyaka) the bus is more geared up to coming into Marmaris in the morning and it only goes back to Akyaka in the afternoon around 4pm The bus departs from a small domus terminus just up from tomato pizza near the harbour. So if you wanted to go in the morning a taxi may be your best bet.
There are plenty of places to stay I usually book through Erhan at Mepar tours, he and his wife speak english and if you email you usually get a quick response. I would imagine you could get accomodation easily in May and doubt you would need to book in advance.Prices woukld be around £18-£22 for b &b (check out http://www.turkuaz-guide.net as well Serdar is always helpful)
The beach is one long bay so no good or bad part everyone has there favourite restaurant to place themselves in front of. For us it was the sikadam as if was closer to the jetty and my son liked to search for the crabs in the rocks along the wall but the whole beach area is nice.
Restaurant wise the only ones we found expensive where the riverside ones. The krystal that Elliemeg suggested is good andt we also liked others in the lower village (the golden roof where you can still go and choose your food from the chiller prior to it being cooked) and the Kazan which was always friendly

Hope you enjoy Akyaka

Hi, We went for the day from Marmaris we caught a bus outside Tansas and that took us up to the bus station where we had to change buses for Akyaka. There is probaly only one bus in the morning which goes all the way down to Akyaka otherwise they drop you on the main road and you either have to get another bus down the hill or walk which is a long way. We started walking but were lucky the bus soon came along and we got on. Coming back is the same so check the times before you leave the bus stop. It would be easier to get a taxi but was fun on the bus!

I think i will take your advice and get a taxi there. ellie meg, the krystol resturant you recommended, i hope you dont mind me asking but where about do you mean when you say the top of akayaka? is it far from the beach.
thanks shirl

akyaka is on a fairly steep hill with the beach and riverside at the bottom, the krystal is at the top of akyaka it is walkable but from the beach you have a 10-15 mins walk uphill ,depends how fit you are lol, you could get a taxi for around £2, when we went to krystal for meals it was around £8 for 2 adults and 1 child , 2 drinks each included and free starters and desserts and free lavash. this was for their gorgeous casseroles, which we thought was extremely good value. avoid the vira vira, looks nice but food is dreadful.

If I were in the fortunate position of having a day out in Akyaka from Marmaris (I'm not... sob, sob  ) I'd go down to the beach, which is so much better than Marmaris - beautifully shallow & clear for a hundred yards out, find myself an umbrella & lounger (provided by the Council - costs a couple of quid) outside the Sikidam restaurant. A few cooling beers during the morning. Then a short walk at lunchtime into the lower town (100 yds?) to the Golden Roof, which is one of the best traditional Turkish lokantas I've ever been to. A nice selection of mezes from the chill cabinet, a kebab or some chicken, and their superb home baked bread straight out of the wood oven. A few more beers, then back to the lounger on the beach for a total chill out.

Utter heaven.

If you get a dolmus to Mugla from outside Tansas you can get off at the top of the road down to Akyaka, they are very frequent and cheap. Walking down is not too bad if you are reasonably fit, we did it in the heat of the day, and survived! Going that way its downhill so could be worse. If you get a taxi which we did on another occasion, ask a few drivers how much before getting in, we found our daughter paid a lot more than we did, but she didn't ask first.

going by bus is not that bad, walking down doesnt take a lot of time, and is not tiring...
going back maybe tiring though...

Thanks for the price of the taxi. We tried to go last July but because it was so quiet we could not find an excursion. We did book with Icmeler Travel Centre but Carol could not get enough people to go so we got our money back. Let's hope its busier this year and the excursions will be running to there. We are going in June and if we can't we will probably go in a taxi.

ive got the phone number of the taxi driver we used whilst in akyaka, im happy to give this to you if you want, sometimes marmaris taxis can charge more as its more of a tourist place than akyaka is. its definitely worth a visit as its such a beautiful place

its so easy to get to Akyaka, on the beach there are boat trips to Sedir Island, where you can buy a trip yourself, no need to use an agency, dont wait for excursions :)
