i left benidorm on sat 14th april and the rep on the transfer said that alicante is now ALL NON SMOKING
the were hoards of people outside smoking their heads off before
checking in
we all know by this site that gate 11 its called where you can have a quick fag...its near gate 10 but its never been used.or go behind the screens.all you do is double back on yourself when your bags have been checked and scaned.ok
this morning I was in Cardiff Airport seeing my parents off on a holiday to Cyprus.
Due to the smoking ban in Wales, dad and myself had to go outside the terminal to have a ciggy--we were having a bit of a moan about it to other people who were also outside for a smoke ,and I was quite shocked when told that the smoking ban is also in force in Spain.
As I had only two day's before booked my first holiday in Benidorm ,I can't say that news had me jumping for joy.
When later on (over coffee)I was relating this to my mum,the guy on the next table overheard what we were saying, and told us that he had just come back from Benidorm---and the smoking ban was no longer in force!!
Now what am I to think.

Hi Marysma ... the smoking ban in Spain was introduced in January last year. It may not be enforced in the same way as the ban in parts of the UK and Ireland, but it is still in force.
they had 6 months to make up there minds.smoking or not,,,most are smoking.but they could not change over once they had made the choice...
so why not in uk.we are in the eu???
if i cannot smoke then bann phones and beer pcs. in airports,
thanks for your reply's.
Bit gutted that there is a smoking ban in Spain,if I had known about it I would have chosen another country(are there any left where you can smoke?).
I don't suppose it will be to bad though--at least I won't mind sitting outside on a lovely warm evening, and sitting on my balcony with a nice glass of vino!.
Thanks for the tip about the airport--I am a very nervous flyer--and would be ten times worse without a ciggy!!!!
I agree and more with the other things you say---but don't want to start another riot on this board!
Cheers
Marysma
They are one of the few hotels who do allow smoking in certain areas of the hotel. They have an area near the pool tables on the ground floor and also at the back of the Concert lounge which is down the steps near the restaurant.
Please don't be put off Beni by the smoking ban because I would say that the majority of bars allow smoking, even some of the bars where children are allowed have smoking areas.
Sue
djwoody----thanks a lot for your tips.
At the airport if you are having a smoke at Gate 11, please do not put your cigarettes out on the floor and try to discourage anyone else from doing so. Two weeks ago we had a 12.5 hour delay and no-one bothered us but if the cleaner comes and floor is a mess she will get security. (The delay would have been unbearable without a smoke) On second thoughts, a 2.5 hour check in, a 12.5 hour delay. a 3.5 hour flight, total 18.5 hours, maybe I might have stopped! Maybe!!!!!
I bought a cup of coffee and used that as an ash tray, obviously after I had drunk the coffee, leaving a bit of fluid in the bottom of the cup to drown any existing stub end and then disposed of the cup in a bin before making my way when called to gate 3 for departure .
We sat down around the corner out of sight and bothered no one, but I saw people blatantly standing under the no smoking sign in view of anyone passing on the main walkway.
idiots
Sanjiiiiiiiiiiiiii

I usually buy a drink for this purpose, but not coffee
In February they had a huge pot urn in that area full of tab ends, is it no longer there? I t was a little further over from the usual spot.
Sue
Its not there now Sue, but there are a couple of bins. Despite this i saw "fag ends" all over the floor. If people carry on like this the authorities will stop turning a blind eye i'm afraid!

Are there any bars (especially family ones) that have banned smoking? It's all to do with personal preference and I would prefer to be in bar where smokers go outside to smoke - especially when in a family bar. The family bars in Tenerife that have banned smoking are always full, and the parents I have talked to, don't mind popping out for a ciggie as they also have children in the bar.
All bars with entertainment on had smokers in.
When we were there is August I couldn't find any signs for Gate 11 so I asked Customer Services. The girl said that it doesn't exist!
luci
Not sure if its gate 11 or 10 you want, but the area you are looking for is down past the VIP lounge near the pub (Forget name), at the bottom corner where some screens are!
When I was at Alicante Airport last month, nobody was smoking in that area at all. They seem to have clamped down as there was a member of staff hovering around and no sign of any old tab ends or wifts of smoke at all.
Thanks for the replies.

This is what pees me off.
If Malaga Airport can provide a smoking room, then why can't Alicante ?....
Still Spain, still the same law/rules apply.

I agree Sanji .... in madrid you don't even have to wait to go through passport control for a ciggie, there are smoking booths all about when you arrive and they are also situated by every few gates when departing.
