My daughter is taking her 14 month old this year and is wondering what she should do about milk while out there. Baby is just coming up to the age when she can go onto cows milk, but should she keep her on formula for a bit longer and take that with her or is the milk in Turkey suitable for 14month olds?
Thanks in advance
Please Briar could you wait until I get a reply before tidying this message away with other Baby Holiday questions! I know its boring to people without babies but it is quite important. People don't always ready a thread if its one they have seen before, and my question is getting missed!
Sorry to complain
Wendy
Hi, My daughter took her son when he was 14 months and he had cows milk in Turkey, just make sure it is the full fat one. he had no adverse affects.
I took my son to Turkey when he as 13 months old an was still on SMA progress milk. You can buy this is individual sachets(which make uo 1 bottle). We bought these here and took them out with us. They didn't add that much weight because they weren't in tins, and it meant on the way home we had extra room in our cases as they had obviously been used.
I know that people say the milk in Turkey is okay to use and we did give our son milkshakes etc using the turkish milk but you need to remember that by changing their milk so sudden you could give them an upset stomach, plus the fact that most of the other food is going to be strange to them. My husband and I thought it was better to keep our son on his own formula milk until we returned from our holiday.
I hope this helps a little
Thanks
Natalie
and if the baby did become upset you would be at a loss to know whether it was the milk change or something else..better err on the side of caution.
She just wanted to know if milk in Turkey could cause any problems. It tastes different to us dosen't it?
Thanks
Wendy
(You can tidy up know Briar if you want)
When you say it tastes different to ours, I think you mean UHT milk.
UHT milk is much cheaper than fresh milk abroad & thats what all the hotels & restaurants use.
They do have fresh milk just like ours at home, if you go to the chiller/fridge cabinets in their shops you will find it.
Saying that, UHT is perfectly safe if the baby will drink it.
I'm sure you know a baby that age should be on full fat milk & I don't know how you know that its full fat. I don't suspose semi or skimmed would do him any harm if you got it by mistake for such a short time.
I used to find the UHT horrible when abroad. Then I was dieting & someone told me skimmed UHT is not nearly as thin & watery as skimmed fresh & if I could get used to the taste it was much nicer on cereal (not like water, LOL). So I tried it & eventually I got used to it, so now it doesn't bother me at all. But I hate full fat milk now fresh or UHT.
What I'm saying is I'm sure the milk will be fine, but if you're worried take dried stuff (or take a little & buy it over there), but you will need to bring a kettle as well if you are in a hotel room.
Have a great time
Kim
