Thats really dodgy surely it should be an excess per case.
Just dont declare you split clothes but get the same amount of money back to cover everything if possible.
Its a bit naughty if its the same company who lost the case who is making money by charging an excess!
I wouldn't touch TO Insurance.
Off to the US in just over a week. As this is our first trip state-side, we're doing a 2 week west coast coach tour - LA, Grand Canyon, Vegas, Yosemite, San Francisco followed by chilling out in Hawaii for a week. Any suggestions as to what to pack for this kind of holiday? Obviously we're restricted to the 20kg per person.

Wow! What a fantastic holiday! Who did you book that with? It's the sort of thing I'd like to do when my kids are grown up and I can go off without them.
As for clothes, I'd say lots of loose, lightweight stuff if you're going to be sitting on a coach and walking around sightseeing, and then some nice swimwear (which doesn't weigh much anyway) for Hawaii - maybe your hotel in Hawaii will provide or loan beach towels so you won't have to pack any, it might be worth you finding out about this to save a bit of space in your case.
We going with Jetsave - Wonders of the Golden West. Had originally considered Titan Tours, but they changed the Hawaii add-on to an island cruise rather than xx nights in a hotel.
i am in need of new suitcases for this summer - any recommendations please?
One useful tip is that when I get back from every holiday I make a few notes about what I took, what we wore most and what we did not use. This is especially useful for the children as their needs change gradully as they get older. For example last year I noted that they didn't use all the 15 T shirts I took ( obviously growing out of the spiling ketchup stage).
all the 15 T shirts I took ( obviously growing out of the spiling ketchup stage).
Come on, how many of us out there do this? At what age do they grow out of it? Mine's nearly nine and last year we only had about 5 accidents
I must admit if we are doing Italian dining then we try to wear red that night!
I write loads of lists! I keep a master copy on the PC which I adapt each year. There's a list for toiletries (I take far too much) one for clothes, right down to what clothes I will be wearing to the airport. I then write another list of last minute things to buy (books, sweets etc) and a checklist/to do list for the days leading up to departure. ie. 2 days before -finish packing, day before - bikini wax, blitz house etc.
Are you sure you're not me in disguise? :rofl :rofl
The only difference seems to be that I start my lists about 2 weeks before departure.

and whats wrong with using you
x # shorts
x # trousers
etc etc
and I think Jingles and I seem to want to specify EXACTLY which shorts/trousers/tops we intend to take.
Seriously, I think the HT list is very good.

It's not the clothes; I've got them down to a T. The clothes are all packed and there's plenty of room in the case and then..... the toiletries and medicines seem to ruin it for me. They take up all the room and are so bulky and, oh I feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about it!
Hellllpppppp
It's good to know I'm not the only one that obsessive then!! I fly a week today and I'm constantly checking my lists!!
really showing my stupidity here, but can anyone enlighten me as to how many stones equate to 20 kilos, got to weigh our cases on our good old bathroom weight watchers but a bit rusty on the old conversions!!
List comprises (separately):
daywear, shorts and matching tshirts/vests
underwear and swimwear
evening wear that can swap and change for 2 occasions
shoes/sandals/flipflops/poolshoes etc etc
toiletries, medical bag and including makeup
Sad or what even have to put what we are travelling in inclusive of what footwear will be worn
Does anybody tick off once purchased or found and cross off the list when placed in the case.
No wonder I get stressed packing and then there is the housework and the stripping of beds. I need a holiday after all this

20 kg = 44.1 lbs or 3 stone, 2.1 lbs.
we fly on Tuesday 4th September too, and I'm already a week into my list.
I've just got my second load of washing out and I'm in the process of checking out recommendations for trips, restaurants etc.
I spent ages yesterday trying on clothes to make sure they fit OK.
Reading books and suncream/after-sun/mozzie spray are stacked on the floor in the spare bedroom, towels, knickers & socks on the bed etc etc.
Here's where I may be strange though - I won't actually pack until Monday.
From long practice, I can do this very quickly - the hard part to me is deciding what to take, washing & ironing it and getting it all together.
Once it's all hung up ready to go into the suitcases, the rest is a doddle.

I don't go on holiday for 2 1/2 weeks yet. And i haven't even thought about packing. Got good idea what i'm taking. But won't be finalised til probably the day/night before i leave the house. Bedroom will look like a bombsite by the time i leave.
