Hi we are going to the Iberostar Creta Ponorama on 6th August for my 40th Birthday (12 weeks an counting ).
We booked this holiday with First Choice and they have allocated us a double room at the Panorama this is for 2 adults and our 14 year old son. At the time of booking I did ask them if this room would sleep 3 adults and they said yes but I'm still not sure if this means that we will have a double bed and a tiny sofa bed.
Now I have never tried this before but has anyone had any luck getting a free upgrade (well it is my birthday!!) at the hotel and if so would you recommened that we e-mailing the hotel before we leave or wait until we arrive,( unfortunately we will be arriving at around 5.00am in the morning therefore this might not be a good time to ask for a better room)
Do men need to wear long trousers at night for dinner?
And the all important question what at the MOZZIES like ? Cos they always bite me.
Anyone else going at this time would love to hear form you ?
We went to this hotel in OCT 2005 - well technically it was the Creta Mare, but the two hotels were being run as one (see my review).
- as far as accommodating your son goes, it may depend on whether you are allocated a garden bugalow, or a room in the main hotel. I'm afraid I do not know about the main hotel, but can tell you the garden bugalows all have a small separate bedroom at the back, that has a single bed.
I can also tell you we had a free upgrade from a garden view, to a sea view ...just because I asked really nicely (I was willing to pay, but when I offered they refused)...so I'd definitely ask if you can change your room if you are not happy - they were very accommodating.
We did email the hotel before our visit, and we found them pretty responsive to our questions, ...although it was sometimes a day or two before they responded. But I would definitely ask them in person about upgrading your room (if you hope to do this for free) as alot will depend on availability at the time...we were lucky !
However,I think it would be a good idea to email them before your visit, to find out if the main block hotel rooms also have separate sleeping area for your child, similar to the bungalows - so at least you will know what to expect before you get there.
Dress for dinner was smart casual.......most people adhered to this.
There were no mozzies in October when we went ...but there were alot of very large centipede things around the garden bungalows...which though not really a nuisance as such, but due to windows & doors being left open, you would often find them wandering up your hotel room wall in the evenings !!!!
One thing I would say is that you have made an excellent choice of hotel -we are still left comparing every hotel to this one some 2 years later......
I will e-mail the hotel before we go , maybe we might be luck.
This will be our third holiday with the Iberostar chain, and both the other hotel we very nice. I just get a little bit worried about sleeping arrangements at hotels and always feel that I should not make a fuss about sofa beds or camp beds especially when we got a free child place for our 14 year old son with First choice.
Anyway thanks again for the advice.
