Well I'm heading to Santorini july/August 2008, already booked the flight (I know it's early), suprise for my girlfriends 21st
As I want it all to be a suprise, I was thinking I might learn some greek, obviously only basic, I'm generally not very good at picking up languages put I really want to put 200 per cent into this as an extra suprise
So I was wondering if any knows any good CD/Books that I could use as a stepping stone to learning a bit of greek??
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I've not ventured into this site...

The old favourite is "Teach yourself Greek" and I have always found it both useful and, at times, funny. Amazon have it on CD/Book at £12.53. My old copy is still on tape. Remember them?
The BBC do the basics for free at http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/greek/
- I reckon that this should see you through!

There's a "Talk Greek" programme on June 26th 2am - 4am BBC2...
The BBC run a series of language programmes throughout the summer and this one has been repeated over the last couple of years. Basic Greek for beginners and i'm pretty sure one part is based on Santorini...
well worth setting the video to record to hear the language spoken and see the sights at the same time..

for more than this, the bbc do a great book / cd which will start out teaching you the basics and go on to more if you want. it's about 12 quid and available in waterstones and big book shops
you will be amazed at the warm reception you'll get if you just speak a few words of greek. good luck!
Well done HolidayRich! If I was your girlfriend I'd be well chuffed that you'd put so much thought and effort into this holiday You'll love Santorini especially if you're a romantic. We went last summer and it is truly one of the nost beautiful places.
