Does anyone know if they offer any "drinks packages" on the Star ? Either alcoholic or soft drinks ??

No all inclusive on the Star but prices were ok anyway. Lots of happy hours going on as well.

 WooHoo! Booked our first cruise! Me and hubby never been on a cruise before. We are really looking forward to it. Got it really cheap as well because we booked last mintue! We are flying into Palma on the 28th July, travelling to Livorno, Genoa, Marseille, Barcelona, Valencia and back Palma. 7 nights in total.

Has anybody here been on the Islland Star for this holiday before? What sort of clothes should we take? Any other advice because this is our first cruise.

We sailed in October. If you want to dine in the resturant you will not go wrong with wearing what ever you would wear to go out for a meal.
If you like fish, do not miss the aquarium in Genoa. It is the largest in the world. it is about 20mins work from the docks. turn right out of the docks.
Barcelona is easily done on your own. Watch for the men playing cards donot get involved we have seen many lose a lot of money. You should enjoy your trip. happy cruising.

We are looking to book Island Star for 7 nights on 29th Sept. The best price I have found so far (from LGW) is £529 for an o/s cabin. We are fairly flexible with dates. What would any of you here do?
Is this a good price for September or should we wait?
What do you think?

You would almost certainly get a better price with a week or two to go, especially if date flexible and London airport suits. You should be able to save a minimum of £100 each on price you quote. Also stick with the Star and don't go for the Escape which is much older and not nearly as presentable as a ship.

hamraq, thanks for that, it's what I was thinking really, just wanted other opinions.
Thanks again.

We booked this cuise just a week before we sailed. This was our very first cruise and can I say will not be our last! It was fantastic! We flew into Palma where we boarded the ship, as we arrived at our cabin so did our bags. The only downside of the holiday would be the noise in our cabin, but I doubt they can help that.

Ports of call were: livorno and genoa in Italy, marseille in France, barcelona and valencia in Spain.

They were fantastic, we only did two excursions as they very highly priced.

Everything about the ship was brilliant, the cleanliness, the food, the staff.

The entertainment team put on shows each night which were amazing and a joy to watch.

Anyone how has been recently can they say if the waiter service section in the Island is still opporational it was at the back on the left when we went a couple of years back.

For those you asked cheapest place for late deals has been cruise1st they are owned by the cruiseline and TXT is where they advertise the best offers, usualy the week before sailings, on-line prices tend to be a little bit more.

"cruise1st.co.uk is a digital media company and is an internet and teletext trading division of Text Abroad Holidays & Travel Ltd. Text Abroad Holidays Limited is a subsidiary of Sunshine Cruises Limited."

SunshineCruises(Island Cruises) is only part owned by First Choice last time I checked RCI owned the other half.

Windjammer, the waiter service you refer to was on the Escape. The Star has only been with Island since last season and we were on the Star in October and did not see such waiter service, although we were not looking out for it. Think we would have noticed though.

Incidentally, we did the Star because our daughter (15 at time) was going and felt the informality would be better for her. We are now convinced that better value can be found outwith the "package" cruiselines i.e. Island/OV/Thomson. This October we are introducing her to RCI Voyager, and are doing this for less cost than the Island was last year. This includes the cost of an extra day, and hotel, in Barcelona pre-cruise!!

No waiter service when we were on the Star last August. In the Island Restaurant waiters showed you to your table and poured water, but they didn't serve you as it was still buffet service.

Am going on the Island Star on 20 October with my inlaws (who have been on many cruises before).

They keep going on about when we have the safety drill before we sail. Apparently on all other cruises, they are all told/shown what to do (a bit like on the aeroplane).

I have not seen this in the brochuire or mentioned anywhere else. Just wondering if they do this on the Island Cruises?

Any other information about the ship will be great too!
