hello, i am thinking of going to playa de las americas for this new year with my boyfriend, thinking of flying out new years eve for 1 week (it will also be my 22nd birthday on the 1st jan).
anyway we have never been to tenerife or any of the islands, i was wondering if anyone knows anything about these two accomadations or has had an experiance of them.
i have been looking at reviews and i think they seem about the same standard, maybe columbus has a little more facilities.
one thing i really want to know is that i have read reports that the pool area at columbus does not get sunshine in the month of january- is this true, does it get no sun at all or just some?
i have also read about this for the piramides although it seems more complaints about it at cloumbus. anyway i was thinking if both pool areas are not going to have much sunshine then i think ill go with columbus as at least there is the roof top sun terrece where i could sunbath and have a dip now and then!
sunbathing and the pool area is a big part of my holiday so i would like to be able to do this, so if anyone can help me out between these hotels with any sugestions or recomendations etc it would be really helpful.
we dont want to spend too much buying the holiday this time as we have splashed out on a really nice summer holiday which we are yet to have, just thought its not great round here at new year and with it being my birthday feel like getting away for it. i know it can be expensive to go on holiday at new year i have been looking around and i the best price i have come across so far is a package of £950 + insurance (thompsons, who we normally go with) is this good? although thats on the web dunno if it might be dearer in the shop, but ive looked at diy (even tho not done it before) and the fights are working out at around £800-900!! so it seems it would be cheaper or about he same to get a package.
sorry for the long post any help/advice would be great. thanks! x
Sorry, can't comment on the Columbus aparthotel. Stayed at Las Piramides in my late thirties, during September. (Lol.I know that's an oldie compared to you both!) To be perfectly honest, I really didn't rate the place. The rowdiness at the pool and from folk coming home at 6 or 7 in the morning was just a bit too much. Like all young folk ,I was a party animal, who still enjoys a good laugh, dance, late nights out and drink or 9..Lol.
The basic accommodation is always something I can live with, somewhere to sleep and shower and change, but even in my Teens and Twenties I wouldn't have appreciated some of the goings on from some of the other guests at Las Piramides. The apartments were a bit stuck in a time warp too IMO..the 70's. The building was just a big concrete block really.
It could well be a different crowd at New Year though?? Near enough a grand seems an awful lot to pay for that IMO.
Just wondering, would you consider flying out on your Birthday??
There's a holiday available with http://www.firstchoice.co.uk/ going out on 1/1/08 08:35 from Birmingham arriving 13:00 Tenerife South for £849.40 or 1/1/08 15:15 from Manchester (noticed your from Staffordshire) arriving 19:45 Tenerife South £890.20
It's a studio at Parque Santiago 3 for 1 week for 2 adults. Lovely area of PDLA and highly recommended complex. Plenty of lively Bars etc.nearby.Starco's not very far to walk and Parque de la Paz even closer too.
Total cost's are without in flight meals ( or insurance, which you can normally get really reasonably anyway)
The return flights are either 14:00 from Tenerife to Birmingham, arriving 18:20 or
20:45 from Tenerife to Manchester,arriving 01:20.
Realise you probably want to be there for the fireworks etc. on New Years eve,but was just an idea??
There are also flights from Manchester to TFS on 31/12/07 at 14:45 arriving 19:10 and from TFS on 07/01/08 at 20:10 arriving 00:25 with Monarch...
£527.78 http://www.skyscanners.com/
If you can find accommodation, that's not too bad for flights at that time of year,I suppose.
There's some cheap accommodation on http://www.lowcostbeds.com/ for as little as £270.
Would be quick at bookng something now,as you already know ,most of the holidays to Tenerife at that time of year are already snapped up!
Hope you get what you're looking for anyway.
just wondering now if anyone has any information on this aparthotel, i have read lots of reviews all been helpful, although i was wondering which side of the hotel i would be best at for quiet and sunshine on my balcony and maybe even a nice veiw?
dont know if i could get all that but you never know, although i wouldnt be greatly dissapointed if this is not possible as i dont spend too much time in the room any way, just when cooking breki in the mornings its nice to eat it on the balcony and getting ready to go out in the evening, its nice to be able to sit on the balcony and have a glass of wine or beer or whatever lol and look out at the views etc
thankyou for any help/advice x
Have a brilliant time at the Columbus apartments.
thankyou im sure i willc from what ive read on here!, im so excited really cant wait !! x
There is also a lot more activity at the columbus than piramides and you have made a good choice. I have stayed 4 times. Try to ask beforehand to be located in Building 2 as Building 1 is situated on a very busy and noisy main road.

As you have now booked the Columbus I shall close this topic and let the other one continue to avoid and duplication of replies.
