Or sometimes it's due to the when the clocks change and hence whether there's time difference between Edinburgh and Malaga :-) Departure and arrival times are often no guide to how long the flight will actually last!

It's just a case of you're heading in to prevailing winds on the return flight so it takes longer thats all. Wind speeds vary so it can take quite a lot longer on the return flight than on the outbound.

Also i think that flights can be routed a different way on the way back aswell, so it could be possible that you have a slightly longer journey on the way home.
That's true to a certain extent Jessop, although the most direct route possible is normally given to save fuel and time. Prevailing weather is the main factor but it all adds up.
