Hi Fiona, my daughter, my sister and I have all recently boughtthe Canon Powershot A610. It's a fab camera - the basic functions are easy to master and there are a load of extras if you're a budding professional. My daughter has just come back from honeymoon in NZ & Hawaii and the photos are absolutely fantastic. We spent hours researching and found an excellent website called http://www.cameras.co.uk. It reviews loads of cameras under loads of different categories. It really is a good site- well worth a look.

We liked our camera but it now is beginning to show lines with the latest photos. Looks like you are all going to give me( or OH) plenty to research :D

The list is endless but have a look at :

It looks as though the Panasonic Lumix TZ3 will be the camera of the year with that wonderful Leica lens.

I have recently bought my second Fuji camera, the old one has been great and still works fine - it was only a 2MP but I've had some great prints from it up to at least 9" x 7" - it now belongs to son who was delighted to get his hands on it :D
My new one is a lovely 9MP and has loads of functions for those who like to fiddle and learn, but it also has an excellent easy-to-use automatic mode. Both my Fuji cameras give excellent battery life too

I've got one of THESE, bought it last year and I'm absolutely delighted with it. I guess it's the TZ2/3's predecessor.

Glad you like the Tizzy 1. My wife has just bought the Tizzy 3 on the strength of its reviews and is delighted. All 3 models are still in production and are selling well.

Can really recommend the Fujis. We had a Kodak one like a brick, but took great pictures so were reluctant to get anything else. We also didn't want anything too diddy or hubby would have had trouble operating it. Upshot was we got a Fuji (F11 I think but I'm not sure??) great size and fab pictures. Also takes really good video- so good infact that I can't see the point of a separate digital camcorder. Inlaws were so impressed with it that they too went out and got one.

My parents are very keen photographers and they too have Fujis.

Pam :D

Another vote for the Canon powershot 610. Superb quality photos and plenty of functions. If I have any criticism - it's not the smallest of digitals. however, it is a size you can fit in your handbag or large pocket.

I've got a Fuji Finepix A600 (or Asomethinghundred lol) and its excellent! i love it! it goes through an emmense amount of batteries right enough but i can't decide if thats because it only takes 2 batteries or because i keep forgetting to turn it off!!!!

Leanne, normal Alkaline batteries won't last much time at all in a digital camera. Not even Duracells. I'm assuming your camera takes AA batteries so I recommend you consider buying a set of 4 NiMh (Nickel metal hydride) rechargeable batteries with a fast battery charger. They aren't very expensive these days and you will save loads of money in the future as they should allow you to take and review lots of photos before they need recharging. Get 2700's if you can as they are the most long-lasting you can get.

I'll also cast my vote for the Canon Powershot cameras. I've got an A710 7mp camera and it's great but probably has more functions than most people need so any of the A series would be a good choice as they are all well-rated. The A610 is a 5 megapixel camera, the A620 a 7 megapixel, and the A630 an 8 megapixel camera. They all have quality 4x zoom Canon lenses and a proper viewfinder as well as the LCD screen which I find is especially useful when taking photos in bright sunshine when the screen is less easy to see.

I think the only problem you might encounter with buying goods like cameras' etc abroad is that the warranty on the item will not be valid in this country should something go wrong with it, not 100% sure, but I'm sure I've seen this problem raised on another site and that was the answer, it had to go back to the country of purchase for repair under warranty :!: Tony.
