Have you checked out some of these Geoff. I can't recommend them as i've not been, but i've been next door to Praia da Vau and going into Rocha most nights i don't recall it having too many hotels.

There seems to be a lot of accomodation in Praia da Rocha yet not a lot is shown in the UK Holiday Brochures.

Is it that a lot of the accomodation is kept to Portugese, German or other foreign tour companies?

I would'nt have thought so Geoff. I reckon its because there are far more apartments than what there are hotels.

We stayed at the Hotel Luna for our honeymoon, in 1997. I think it was fairly new then, a couple of years or so, at the time.

I think we paid about £1000, for the package, for a fortnight in July/August. More than we'd normally pay, but it was our honeymoon...

We went back to the Algarve in 2001, to a different resort, but we did call in on it, and it was as we remembered.

Nice pool, nice bar. Breakfast was a continental buffet, AKA various cold cuts of "spam" type stuff and cheeses and breads. That was the only thing I didn't like about it... but it wasn't a problem for us.

There weren't many English folk staying at that time. Most of the residents seemed to be German, if I remember correctly

I'd certainly be happy to stay there again, or recommend it, based on our time.... bearing in mind it was getting on for 9 years ago.
