I am wondering what the prices are like in the south as well.
I think i have always imagined the south as very quiet and expensive by goan standards, thats why we go North all the time.

I might try the south next year, thats if we go back to Goa.

Last year, got a taxi down to Agonda and Palolem and stayed over in a large beach hut, ( myself, husband, son and my mum, who had a seperate room in the same hut ) The hut was £12 for the night, which I thought was quite expensive, as we've stayed in huts at Mandrem before for about £2.50/£3.00 a night. But then I suppose the hut at Palolem slept four and had ensuite shower & toilet. Very posh !!

I did not notice that there was much difference in prices though for meals and drink, it all seemed about the same.

Just like the North, prices in the South vary according to the area, there isn't one rate for things in the North and one rate for things in the South.
Things can be expensive in the North around the Taj Holiday Village and Fort Aguanda Beach Resort, so too in the South prices can be higher around Cavellosim, the Leela Palace and the Taj Exotica.
There are cheaper areas in the South, like Colva and Benaulim and some of the more remote places just like there are cheaper areas in the North.
It's just that many people think of the South as only the areas around around the 5 Stars.

Stayed at the Ramada over Xmas and New Year (3rd time). It is quite isolated so if you want to go into the local towns for a meal or to shop then you have to get a taxi from outside the hotel and their fares are pretty high. For example taxi from the airport to Ramada 550 rps return by hotel taxi 800 rps There are several shacks on the beach where you can eat and drink and these are reasonably priced and there are about 3 bars/restaurants outside the entrance to the hotel (1st one is the best) where again the prices are reasonable. A bacardi breezer in the shacks/bars will cost around 60 rps compared to the 90 rps charged in the hotel. We were getting around 73 rps to the pound in the hotel and 77 rps in Colva but then bear in mind that you have to pay for a taxi to go and get your money changed. I put my hotel review on a few days ago so if you are interested you can check it out. If you need anymore information on the hotel PM me. We always used to stay in Calangute but are now Southern converts. Have a good holiday.

We have stayed in the North a couple of times but this year went to the South, in Varca also. :tongue We stayed at the Club Mahindra. Outside the Hotel front there are a few restaurants, the best one was The Sun and Moon, the fish was delicious. On the beach there were a few shacks but no where near as many as the North. Its the taxis that are the most expensive part of the holiday as you need them to go anywhere... The shacks were the same prices as North as we went to see our son at Candolim a couple of times. One thing that the South has is a beautiful clean beach. In fact its cleaner everywhere. When we returned from the north we were quite filthy but never when we out in the South. Although we had a fabulous holiday we are leaving Goa for a few years as we found it more commercialised than ever this year. It has changed over the last five years without a doubt. I am sure you will have a great time. :tup
