haha don't you lot pay for pays in England then? 5p each bag or better still just take your own.

On the subject- primark clothes are made in India, where the labour is cheaper than over here. over they can 50p-£1 an hour

OMG took my bags in town today for some xmas shopping , its so awkward trying to stuff clothes and footwear in to the bags , it was so much much easier when the sales assistant folded and packed the bags for you , now they dont even bother asking if you would like them to do it for you where before it was taken for granted and part of the sales service

I still can't get used to taking my own bags. I've just about got to the stage of remembering to take my bags when i do the weekly food shop but I went to town Xmas shopping yesterday and forgot I needed to take bags. The first shop I went into I bought a lovely longish wool cape and the assistant asked me if i wanted a bag? i had to pay 5p because I couldn't very well walk out of the shop with it draped over my arm :think Anyway, I stuffed as much as I could into that bag and luckily my sis who was with me remembered she had a spare bag so everything else I bought went in that.

:think I worked it out, simples, Welsh stores (not just Primark) are requied by law to charge you a minimum of 5p for a carrier bag if you don't have one with you and want your items bagged.

I was in Broughton a few weeks ago and remembered about the 5p that you have to pay - had bags with me wouldn't have minded if I had to pay when I was told all money goes to charity but what charity?

The money raised from the levy is to be donated to a charity of the retailer's choice. Stores with 10 or more employees will be obliged to account for how the money raised has been used and should have some form of information regarding which charity / charities they are donating proceeds to.

.....that's what I thought it said but I've dug out the latest version of the guidance notes and it now says that there is nothing specified in the regulations but the Government expects retailers to donate the profits to good causes.

http://www.carrierbagchargewales.gov.uk/?lang=en the retailers notes are more informative than those for customers, especially the list of exempt items.

Anyway, this has gone way off topic for Primark but would be quite useful in the Welsh tourism thread (if we had one).
