I am asking this on here just in case anyone else has booked the Alicia in Cala Bona for February.
We have a booking for 2nd February for 7 days. On looking at their web site it would appear that they have no rooms available for the whole of February. We are aware that the hotel is closed until the end of January and are wondering if they have extended this. Indeed when we were there in Feb. this year the hotel was only about a quarter full so it would seem unlikely that the hotel is full.
I have emailed them but since the change of management they are a little slow to respond. If I hear nothing in a couple of days I will give them a ring. There may be someone looking at this site who has also booked for February????

It is very concerning for you, as you say the Protur website does not include the Alicia only three aparthotels of some sort.
Did you book direct? from what I have read on this site I thought Protur Hotels were better than that, they should of course let you know, I do hope that they will answer your emails and offer you some alternative.
Of course there is always the EsPort. sorry if that appears flippant.

Yes we did book direct - 3rd time we have done so. Protur are a good company and it may be that I just have not received an email for some reason. I know that if we don't want their alternative which will probably be the Sa Coma Playa they will refund our deposit which they did earlier in the year when we decided against the Sa coma Playa in favour of the Es Port. We do not like Sa Coma!!
Your suggestion of the Es Port is not flippant - it is just that is rather more expensive then the Alicia which is really great value for money in the winter months (assuming it is open!) We do love the Alicia - great food, wonderful sea views and a great location.
If it turns out that the Alicia is not open then we will probably go for one of the Riu hotels.

I tried phoning the main Protur office this morning but got an answerphone message in Spanish!!
I then telephoned the Alicia itself and the girl I spoke to wasn't sure if the hotel was open - seems to be in doubt a little. She has promised to email me today????
We did notice that standards had dropped a little between our first visit in March 2005 and February 2006 - due primarily to a change of manager and quite a few reception staff. Indeed where once the hotel got glowing reports it now falls down on the quality of entertainment and sometimes lack of! I do wonder that if this continues whether Portland will continue to use the Alicia - indeed the only way to book this hotel in the summer months is via Portland. This is why we go in the winter months when we can book direct. If Portland drop the Alicia it will be a huge blow for the Protur chain.
Let's see if we get a reply.
