Had no problems carrying DS and R4 cartridge in hand luggage last Easter.
Have been to Cuba every year since 2004. It is a very different country now and Customs are friendlier to tourists. However it is normal for hold and hand luggage to be X-rayed on arrival at Cayo Coco. I used to take a portable HP printer as hotel staff loved to have photos as tips.
The first time 2005 Customs were almost opening my case off the belt and knew where the printer was in my case. They thought it was a radio and I was a spy. Thank heavens it was "Made in China".
Since 2006 they usually ask me to sign a receipt, promise not to sell it to Cubans (where in Moron could you buy photo cartridges?). I would then show when leaving and all is happy give back the invoice.
Customs at De La Ray airport are now more friendly, however I still take a copy of my prescription drugs
(I am diabetic, etc) and they still have drug sniffer dogs before visa checks. But since many Made in China Electrical goods are now in the shops they have less worries about DVD's etc.
We did have , for the first time, a problem when as new Rambo Cop was stationed at the "Pass" on the Moron side of the Causeway on the Jeep trip. He had a 250c.c. motorbike, aviator sun glasses and had seen too many Rambo films. He did not want to let the 12+ Jeeps onto the mainland. We were kept waiting over 30 minutes. Strange as in 2007 The Jeep Safari Team had been given the first Tourist Eco Award by a Cuban Cabinet Minister I was there and saw the presentation.
Just be very polite with Cuban Customs, and don't even think of hiding anything if they want to look in your cases.
Cheers Dariusdave
Thanks to everyone for the info, were flying into caya coco
