This sounds like a very distressing experience but what about your own travel insurance? Did you contact the insurance company at all to see if you could claim the outstanding amount against your travel insurance policy?

Am I missing something here? Are you saying you bought a package that included the Thomson flight? If so why did you even need to tell Q that you couldn't travel, surely they should have been telling you!

A quick trawl of three sets of insurance T&Cs suggest it is unlikely that insurance will cover it.

In the meantime, could you possibly put a positive note about the Hotel itself in the Africa thread - they seem to deserve credit for their honesty. If you put their name in the topic title it will show up when people do Google searchs.
