my partner went quad biking and he says that the sea shoes should be fine but make sure you wear full length trousers as the heat of the engine can burn against the legs.

hubby and nephew wore trainers,as they had them with them,as they travelled on them, but i just wore,a flat pair of sandals,no problem at all.

Hi,

Going to Coral Sea Resort on 27th September, and was wondering if someone could tell me the cost of the quad biking and if it's safe to take a 6 year old on, obviously with an adult.
Is it quite a quick paced excursion or not?

Any info is greatly appreciated.
Getting excited now, just over 4 weeks to go. Never been to Egypt before.

Thanks,

Personally I wouldnt take 6-year old as the bikes do bounce around quite a bit in the rougher parts of the hills.

it is quite fast paced & can be really bumpy, however i went,at my own pace,up to a point,as i was quite nervous.i was definately at the back, but never lost the group.my hubby kept coming back to check on me,he,s so thoughtful like that   there was no way he was gonna go,at my pace, even my 11 year old nephew, was way ahead of me!!! hubby tried telling me,it was bumpier cos i was going too slow, didn,t feel confident enough,to try to find out, if he was winding me up,or not!!!!
would i take a 6 year old,i know my 6 year old grandaughter, would love it,however if i was to take her,it would be at my pace, not hubbys.i know, there was no young children,in our group & can't remember seeing any,in the groups we passed.
enjoy

tracey99 what sort of shoes did you wear? i have only got fli flops or the sea shoes that i'm going to get whilst i am out there?

What did you wear on your bottom half? trousers, 3/4 length trousers or shorts?

Many Thanks

i wore shorts & a vest,as it was absolutely scorching & that was in february, but i put plenty of sun screen on.i had flat sandals on my feet,i would say flip flops, will be fine,as your feet, are rested on a little platform thing,if i remember rightly, you don't do anything, with your feet,so flip flops will be fine.another reason i would wear shorts,is because we got splashed with oil,on our legs,so i definately wouldn't wear 3/4,s especially,if theyr'e new!!! just my opinion though.

Not wishing to detract from the enjoyment that you may get from this activity, please do not forget, especially if kids are involved and you are booking with someone other than a large tour operator, that you should ask to see proof that they have a valid insurance. It may seem to be a "well, its not that important" item, but accidents have happened in the past and is it worth taking the risk?

Thanks for all the advice.

Do you need it stated on your actual holiday insurance too?

Remember watching gmtv a few weeks ago when a woman went quad biking and unfortunately had an accident and was still holed up in a foreign hospital with a ruptured spleen. Her holiday insurance wouldn't pay out as she never told them she was doing an 'extreme sport'. Her bill was over £15000 and rising and she also needed an air ambulance to get home.

So if you go with first choice and they are adequately insured, is it them you claim off in the event of an accident or holiday insurance?

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick. Must be because I'm sooo excited for my hols. 4 weeks and 3 days. YE-HA.

I Stemma - me again.....We go the same time as you remember???

I spoke to our Insurance Co (Insure & Go) & they only charge an extra £5.00 per day/per person for Quad biking.

It maybe worth asking your Insurance Co how much they charge. At least it will give you peace of mind.

I also saw GMTV, which made me phone & check.....

Paying an extra £5.00 isn't much, compared to having a bill of £1000's...

See you there?

yes insure and go are really good for holiday activities. they cover quite a good range of things anyway and you can usually add on for a small fee things those that arnt covered. We have added paragliding (2.90) and scuba diving for an unquailified diver (£3) this year whereas my sons girlfriend has an expensive policy her mum took out especially for her with her bank as she came on holiday with us this year. she paid £70 and it covers nothing apart from the basics. Her mum asked if she could pay for extra cover for the paragliding and scuba but they refused. So she has an expensive waste of time policy and we have a cheap decent one. I have also made a couple of claims on mine over the last couple of years and have had no trouble.

personally I would try to get yourself covered on your existing policy before you go just for piece of mind. I have done quad biking in sharm and had a great time . A bit scary at first but try to relax and enjoy it.

Hi Lyn

We will definately take the extra. I certainly don't want to rely on our Travel Co (First Choice) to have the necessary Insurance, as there is usually something written in the small print making it harder to claim from them - not that I am expecting to make a claim!!!!! Just better to be safe than sorry...

Thanks

Are they? That's interesting because I didn't even bother to ring them when I fractured my rib in Sharm as I just assumed I wouldn't be covered for an accident involving a banana boat.
I wonder if I was covered after all? Not that they could've done anything for me other than x-ray me to confirm the fracture which I had done within about two hours of landing back at Gatwick anyway.

have a great time stix . we did the quad biking with 4 bikes between the 5 of us :D my youngest son who was nine at the time went on the back of his dad . As said it is fairly fast paced but they keep you a in pack with guys checking the front and back so if people are going too fast at the front they will make them stop and hold on for the slowies (like me  ) at the back. my teenage sons had bikes of their own but there the ones you have to watch , they get carried away :( my 9 year old went on the back of his dad. the ridges in the sand make it quite bumpy which i found scary . A little tip for the girls. wear a decent bra because this bit makes the boobs shake all over the place much to the delight of the egyptian bike guys :( :( . I agree if you go too slow the bumps are worse.

We use them all the time & have never had any problems.

Pippy - I have just checked to see what sports are covered & YES, you would have been covered in your Policy......

pips just got my policy booklet out and theres a big list at the back with all sports and activities listed with requirements as to whether they are included or a small fee for telling them before you go. nothing listed as "banana boat" but parasailing over water ,jet sking and water sking are all included so im sure banana boats would be too . I would check you may still to able to claim if it is.
