Sorry, cross-posting Lyn!

I'm not sure exactly what it would be termed as to be honest. I suppose it's a motorised water sport as you're being towed along by a speed boat (damn fast too!). Not sure about the banana boat bit though!

was it a big bill for the x ray pips and do you have an excess on your policy because if you still have a bill im sure they would pay it if it was worth your while. i pay a little more on mine for the the "no excess" which i think is worth it. :D

What I did Lyn was wait until I came home, I didn't even go and see the hotel doctor because I know there's no treatment for a broken rib other than strong pain killers and rest.

All they could have done was x-ray it to confirm it but by the third day of pain, swelling and bruising my Mum and I had pretty much realised what I'd done. Prior to that I just thought I'd pulled a muscle and that was why it hurt to breathe, didn't even occur to me until day three what I'd probably done

I will from now on always check my policy before going on holiday, never have in the past. How very silly

stemma ,don't book through the reps ,walk down to the beach path turn right walk along till you see the beach huts about 300 yards ,there is a booth there called lendl ? book your trips with them ,they are really good and a lot cheaper ,we did the quad riding, bedoiun dinner combined one and the 7 year old grandaughter rode with her dad without a problem ,they keep you in convoy with the boss man as lead bike so you dont go to fast ,at the end of the day its meant to be a enjoyable trip out not wacky races .we combined a few trips from him and got a bloody good discount as well ,if you don't ask you dont get

MY POST CONTAINS SPOILERS OF WHAT THE TRIP ENTAILS

We went on the quad biking trip in July 07 and august 07 twice, my insurance was with a company in our town, it states on it that you can ride quads up to a certain cc, we were covered as ours didnt go more than 30-35 all the trip. Had the quads been over a 1200 cc for example we wouldnt have been covered.

Some of the convoy wore flip flops and vests, some wore trainers/sandals and t shirts as it gets extremely dusty. We bought a scarf for a coupe of quid at the quad bike centre, but to be honest they were cheaper in resort. We kept the scrarf for the trip back in August.

We went on this trip with thomson, we would have gone with the excursion touts off the beach but having the trip from hell with them last year, we decided to be looked after by thomson, and with english speaking guests.

The trip was from 8am until 2pm, you are on the quads for hours with a couple of stops in between. The first stop is at the beduin tents where the rep will give you all free sprite/coke etc, there is a loo stop, but not advisable, its a shack and disgusting.

At the tent there are kids sat on the floor selling hand made jewellery, they dont pester you, but it makes their day if you can buy something.

After about 20 mins, you are back on the bike again for a real long time, it is bumpy but great fun, if you have false teeth beware! check they are still in your mouth after
The next stop is for dinner. It is under cover with a lot of tables ranch style. Again a toilet with no paper and they dont flush, and the floor is sopping. Both men and women use the same loos.

Thomson state you can have a swim in the blue lagoon. What it is really is a lagoon full of sea water with loads of kids in it having fun. Where these kids spring from i have no idea, but they do iritate. I went into the water as it was so hot, but you cannot sea the bottom, and i had no idea what was lurking in it. Sea shoes i would advise to take!

Also Thomson had not told us about the kids scavenging! It is a shame really as we could have brought something for them. When we went in July they pull your clothes off you, try to get your handbags, money, sweets etc oh and chewing gum. No one had anything to give them.

So, we went to poundland before we went last month August, and bought games, sweets etc, so when we went again, we had a rucksack full of presents to give, and i made them all sit down and wait until we gave them something. Although this was funny as none speak english very much lol.

After the swim in the lagoon it was time for lunch, where this was cooked i dont know, but suffice to say we didnt eat it, i suffer with IBS anyway and had travellers diahorea(a few days before) so beef i had been told to keep off as it stays in the gut for 3 days.

Free drinks again from the rep, dont buy from the snack bar, they give you it all free.

After lunch someone puts the scarves back on, then you take a 40 min trip back to the depo where they want you to buy all the photos they do, and to buy the dvd if you want it.

Then you are driven back to the hotel filthy

Enjoy the trip.

Hubby and I went quading it was fantastic out there on the desert meeting bedouin people.
What an experience, we did not book through travel reps, this was my first time and I was reluctant to participate. The guy arranged for hubby, the guide and I to have our own private tour. This was much better as I felt that I was not holding a group behind but once I got used to the machine there was not stopping me

With this talk of scarves, does this mean no helmets?

Also do they want a driving licence? (My son is over 16 but no licence yet)
Reply
no helmets just scarfes, no licence required great fun went last week
Reply
Well if there aren't helmets, we won't be going! Or are they just optional?
Surely people don't take children without helmets? We've done quad biking in Turkey several times and they always had helmets.

We had helmets :D over the scarf . the place we departed from had loads of helmet racks outside , you chose one and the egyptian guys would help you with your scarf and helmet and make sure all was secure. you had to wear one . I think it depends where you go from. most go off from the same area but from different shops . you then stay in your group but I did see other groups with no helmets :? we were staying at hilton sharks bay and booked with the guys at the hotel who were part of sinai dive club . they are also at the hilton fayrouz in Naama bay.

Hi,
Word of warning, We went on these quads 2 years ago, loved going on them, when i came to renew my holiday insurance, i was horrified to find out that we were not insured to go on these, and if we go on them next march when we go back we will have to pay extra.

hope this helps

I did check and ours with Direct Travel does cover quad bikes, though not for 3rd party damage. So presume that means anything we crash into isn't covered, but we are for medical stuff.
