You'll get a pretty good rate at Bangkok Airport when you arrive so you could change money there, if time is of the essence - hotels wont have such a good exchange rate. There are ATM's all over the place so you should be get cash out that way - they sem to accept most cards. Don't change money in the UK as you won't get a very favourable rate at all.

Someone has told me that it's better to change my money into US dollars over here and then to change it into Bahts once i get to Thailand, has anyone else done this? Am just wondering if it's really worth the effort, ie how much i'll save by doing it, i'm thinking about taking £300 over, any advice appreciated....

don't do it. My hotel charged my bill in dollars in January and I was pretty annoyed as it meant I had paid a fair more than if it had been in bahts.

I can't see any possible benefit to changing money twice, you get done for exchange rates twice.

I always use ATM's, having back up credit cards, and normally £100 or so cash (£) in case of any problems. Always served me well.

Hi Bunny , I have been to Thailand 7 times and as a general rule you will always get a better rate there, definitely don't change into US dollars as the previous poster says you will get stung for 2 lots of commission.
There are loads of banks in Bangkok.

I use ATM but take out max poss, usually 20000 Baht as this minimises charges. Just keep excess cash in hotel safe or safety deposit box in room. I know some people will balk at this but I normally stay for a month to fully use the visa on arrival.

If you had a Nationwide bank account there are no bank charges when using in an ATM in Thailand when taking out 20,000baht per day. hope that helps.

Some people won't agree with this... but we always take cash and place it in room safe on arrival. We exchange $100AU (home currency) at a time... more if I go go mad down the shops.
Years ago we always took travellers cheques but they were pains in the bum as they usually wanted proof of identity, so now it's cash and credit card for emergencies.

Hi there ,

can anyone tell me what the rates are if I exchange sterling to Thai Baht when I get to Bangkok on Thursday ? wondering if I should wait until I get there to change my money over?

About 65 baht to the £, change in Bangkok not the UK as you get less here for your £.
