Hi Andy. we really enjoyed it when we went... so you should have a lovely meal there. The new furniture in the lounge bar is gorgeous too!
Blobb. I only know of one - and although I haven't used it myself, a lot of people have said it's good there. I don't remember the name... but if you are in the pedestrianised area, and have Spar (prev Marcial) on your right... go forward about 50 yards, and take the side alley on your right. It's immediately on your left there. Do let us know how you get on. I'm really fussy when it comes to Indian food, so would appreciate the recommendation
If you like Tapas... then try Bodegon las Tapas on the beachfront too. Abslutely superb service and great food. Pricier than some of the international restaurants... but well worth a visit.
Elle xx
Will let you know its all we live on!
Anyone know of any other Indian or other special places on the island please post.
Thanks
Blobb
Just wondering if anyone has dined in La Canada. Have been going to PDC a couple of times a year for over 10 years now and never ventured into the place. We are visiting again in September for my birthday and having eaten in almost all the restaurants in PDC over the years fancied giving this a try. It is not on the main strip but you view it when walking along the front, it is on one of the side streets but clearly visible from the front. Anyone know which place I am talking about? If so, any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Anita.
I had my big number birthday in La Canada a few years ago, also the agency I used to work with took us there for our special meal, plus my UK boss takes me there when he comes over to the island. I have loved every meal I have had in there It was closed for refurbishment, and I've not eaten in there since then. If the same chef is there, I think you would have a lovely time
Yes, I've been to La Canada, just the twice and both times it was excellent, but like madsue I haven't been since it's been refurbished. The reason we don't go more often is that it's a little formal and when we're on holiday we prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.
Thanks to you both for your comments - think will defintely try it if it is open in September its become a challenge now to try and eat somewhere we havent already been.
Definitely What I liked was the little nibbles, freshly cooked, that were brought out to us while we were having pre dinner drinks, and the fact that they were happy to provide whatever you wanted, within reason. I am not a fan of chips/baked potatoes etc, and they made their own version of saute potatoes with onions and peppers. They are happy to spend time discussing the dishes with you, and I have never felt rushed in there
We had 2 lovely meals here. Feels more special than some of the other restaurants and food and service were excellent. Not much more expensive than anywhere else. You eat indoors but with windows and shutters open you get a lovely sea view.
Also went to what has been described by someone on here as a dining hotspot, which is accessed from the promenade (or road) and is between Natura and RubiconH10 hotel, there is ElArgentino, Italian, Fish restaurant and Tapas bar, all were really good and worth a visit,
Will try your tip next time Marge8 although i think my mum went there for a meal, her description sounded similar
Also liked eating out over the marina, its such a lovely setting , we had mexican food at Lanis, really nice food, perhaps a bit slow with service, but then again i don't like being rushed either.
Some friends went to La Canada on Saturday night, and said they were very disappointed in the food this time No nibbles, some things not available on the menu etc etc. They did say that it was very quiet, with only a few tables being used, but what a shame. They also know the family who own it, so it's not a case of being in new hands.
We tried the indian in Playa Blanca not over impressed but quite a few regulars using it.
The first time we went it was good enough to try again and the second time despite ordering the same meal same chef etc it was nothing like.
Shame really as its the only indian in Playa Blanca.
We had a meal at the Jasmine Chinese near the taxi rank on the mainroad going to the marina and found it brilliant well worth trying

Be warned - avoid Lani's Indian at all costs. I haven't been in Lani's for years, but have read other accounts of unprofessional service, overcharging and poor food at the chain. I suspect they are relying on 'first timers' nowadays.
An update on this - daughter's boyfriend - who ate more of his meal than daughter did - had food poisoning courtesy of this experience and was ill all the following day.
A little basic but you can't beat Pascal's steaks for value. Makes a change from the more popular places along the front.
Also, for good cheap food (we had on our first night when we wanted something quick and it was late!) Top Gun also on the front at PDC was good.
An exclent place for a meal in PDC is the Grapevine just up from the Casino. You go up the road (calle Chalana) between La Brasa and Lanis just past the Mucky Duck and supermarket. Down the steps( very nice inside) we walk past this place the first time we went to Lanz and last year we tried it the food is great, freshly cooked and they do an early bird special menu 4 till 6 shown on the board outside, then kitchen open till 10pm. Will be going again next year.
for the umpteenth time i urge people to avoid the lanis chain.
they are trying to take over the island like some upmarket mcdonalds.
they look attractive from the outside but ultimately the dining experience is usually dissapointing.
i know some reps are advising tourists to eat there now(presumably for a kick-back) so beware.
It's my first time to Lanzarote/Playa Blanca next week and as I'm only visiting for 1 week, I hate trawling round trying to find what look like good places to eat.
So, over to you, where to do you recommend, good english and italian please.
Cheers
Deb
Otherwise, most that do english food, in my experience do a bit of everything. You just need to do the menu reading to know because there's so much to pick from.
Italian it's hard to beat Made in Italy in the papagayo CC.
By 'English' I meant traditional 'pub grub', I can't do Indian or Chinese it just doesn't agree with me, so I generally have to stick to steaks, fish, etc.
Thanks for the info re Italian, am going to pay it a visit.
Cheers
Deb
