Hi. Just back from 2 wks in Lanzarote. Had a great time. There are some lovely places to eat. I had looked through loads of forums before I went and got various tips so decided to help out aswell...

Ok ... My favourite places were..

1/ Montmartre French Restaurant (Beside El Tomate near Biosfera Old Town) .. Really authentic French place.. food is gorgeous.. had the duck and was fabulous.. my boyfriend took me there for my birthday and I loved every minute of it. You can't go wrong.

2/ Bodecos (Polish/Irish Restaurant.. Old town.. down towards the harbour.. On the right just beyond road leading down into the harbour)
Really really nice.. the staff were extremely friendly. and the food was delicious. Had a fillet steak and it was cooked perfectly.

3/ Puero Bahia (On the harbour in the Old Town.. last restaurant BLUE building) - nice view looking out on the harbour.. can sit out and food was yummy..

4/ Restaurant right beside Bodegas. you won't be able to miss it.. as there is usually a queue outside to get into it.

5/ The Sports Bar ( On the main strip new town) For lunch .. it was my favourite place for the entire 2 wks and would you believe only went on da last day. Awh it was delicious, my boyfriend had a burger and fried which was huge and yummy from all accounts and i had the cajun chicken baguette.. absolutely delicious.. came with chips and was gorgeous.. real chicken aswell not the dodgy kind that is floating around in lanzarote.!!! Definite recommendation!!!!!

6/Terraza Playa .. lovely location.. On the beach.. Quite popular ... Food was tasty.. prawn cocktail starter was fabulous!!!

Restaurants to avoid!!!

1/ La Ola.. looks really really nice.. the food is nice.. BUT and i mean a major but.. the staff were absolutely useless.. took ages to take our order.. then the food took ages.. everything is slow.. and i mean really really really really slow.. So if you don't mind waiting forever for staff... then go there!!

2/ La Canada.. I know this is unusual to be in this category.. I didn't go myself but it was on my list of good restaurants.... but we met a couple away who had went the previous wk.. and im sorry to say.. she got a salad for starter and there was an insect in it. When she told the waiter.. he said that it was a "special" ingrediant and laughed. HORRIBLE!!!

Well thats it.. I think ive said enough! Hope my suggestions are helpful and you enjoy your holidays as much as I did!!! x

Hiya

Is this restaurant worth a visit?
What type of food is it?

We are over in a couple of weeks time, staying in the resort of oasis de nazaret and i think maybe we can walk to this......we are planning on BBQs most nights but thought might be nice to go here one night.

Is it ok for kids although saying that my kids eat pretty much anything so im not looking for "kids food" i prefer them to eat "normal food" lol
Thanks :D

Don't really know because I've never been there but it sounds fantastic. See the web site here (might be a bit problematic to use) http://www.lag-o-mar.com/start.htm
See the guestbook reviews it sounds great but I'm not sure how much kids would appreciate it - nothing to lose though and would be a terrible shame to stay in Nazaret and not go to Lagomar.
Cheers - Ole

lagomar is lovely, nice food and romantic/interesting surroundings and your right if you are staying in nazaret then it's just up the hill,(very steep hill mind you!) not sure if you know but oasis de nazaret is not a resort as such,it's a residential village, hope this doesnt put you off tho cos every thing is just a short drive away

Hiya Thanks for that!
Sounds lovely definitly be making a trip there when we are away.
I know its not a resort im not fussed to be honest we are booked into what looks like a really nice villa and not planning on doing much apart from relaxing.
We are off to Gran canaria the week after for a resort holiday!!!!!!!

Thanks

Just got back from a couple of weeks in Playa Blanca.
I recommend Tipico Espanol in the main street for tapas - always had Spanish people there - a very good sign. Also Al Horno de la Abuela - a small place behind the children's play area in the Main Street (opposite Tipico Espanol). This has a more Spanish feel to it than the sea front restaurants and doesn't insult your intelligence whith photographs of food. La Era in Yaiza was closed for refurbishment - second time we tried to get a meal there with no success! We might have better luck next time we go.
We cannot recommend Lani's Grill and Tex-Mex in the Marina Rubicon. We waited a long, long time before anyone took notice of us, we ordered drinks but waited so long we walked out before they were delivered. They were not interested in taking a food order. It wasn't even crowded.

Finally help in tracking down a missing restaurant. On a previous visit to Lanzarote we went to the Sunday market in Teguise and on the road out we found a superb restaurant. It was called something like Grill House. It was packed with Spanish families having lunch. The kitchen was an open grill at the back and the food and grilled meat was out of this world. We tried to find it again this visit but couldn't. It was on the right-hand side driving south from Teguise, set back very slightly from the road, with a car park to its right. We drove around in ever decreasing circles but could't find it. If anyone knows of or finds this restaurant, please post its location. It was so popular I can't believe it went out of business but I suppose it happens.

Dear All,

Apart from all the usuals I feel I have to give a mention for the following in Costa Teguise

"Mike's" - opposite Nazaret Apartments - it only opened this summer (on the site of the Village Inn I think) - but don't be put off because it's German. The food is really good and the salads served for starters are big enough for your main meal.

Tacino - In the small square just behind Chispas - I think it decsribes its self as serving Swiss cuisine - either way the curried veal spaghetti is to die for (although the women who runs it could smile a bit more!)

and Meson del Poton (spelling probably wrong) - it's just behind Casa Blanca restauarant in the same road as Peurto Tahiche and the two Lanzis (ARRGGHH!) - they do a good tapas selection and a lovely Chocolate Mousse (if they haven't run out!) -

and if only Casa Luis was open in the evening - Yum....................

Try a English restruant called Casa Cabana, probably one of the best,it's just along from the Polish/Irish restruant about 50 yds on the left hand side, also try Purple Turtle and Tipsys for great breakfasts, just up the hill in the old town, also the Barge Inn and Top Gun are great for breakfast as well, they are on the front in the main town,at night we enjoyed Bottles Bar

Ooh... I just love restaurant threads! :D

Playa Blanca.
Our new favourite here is called Transylvania - and is in the little complex between the Rubicon Palace, and the Natura Palace hotels. Cracking prices, cracking atmosphere... and really good hearty food. The first time we went it cost 4 of us €110 total for 4 starters, 4 main courses, 2 desserts, and 2 drinks each. The wine comes in buckets (always a poll winner for me lol). Worth a special mention is their home-made pate... and the Mititei (spicy sausages made from goat, pork and veal). We went back a week later for my birthday. Excellent stuff. Oh, and afterwards... pop downstairs to Bar Manea. It's stunning! All in white, and with low seating, and hanging chairs. Really, really nice.

If you fancy a light snack, then get a couple of pastelas from the new small cafe in CC Papagayo. It's opposite Snorkelling Delights. Sorry I don't remember the name. Pastelas are like filo pastry, stuffed with a filling of your choice (I have cheese and minced beef), and then fried. They come with this gorgeous salsa (that he calls vinagrette). They're only €1 or €1.50 each. I have two, and that's perfect for a lunch for me.

Brisa Marina. I always rave about this place... because we are always impressed. Went for the umpteenth time last week - and were not disappointed. Sea bass was the fish of the day and was completely boneless (bones are what stop me ordering fish normally, because it's too much hassle). The setting is idyllic, there's a good selection of wines... and the menu is really varied, so there's something for everyone.

Puerto del Carmen
My favourite place in PDC closed down recently (Carmen's Restaurant), and I was on the lookout for somewhere that was a little bit different from "steak and fish". We found Emma's Cantina Mexicana and it's really, really good. Don't dismiss Mexican food as just chilli - it's loads loads more. They have their own website (not one that we built) http://www.emmascantina.com where you can see their menu. This place really is excellent - mainly because Emma is Mexican herself. Her, and her husband Mike, have decorated the place fantastically... but you'll see the pics on their website anyway. And they use authentic ingredients - instead of doing a fast food shamble. They're shut down now until Jan 5th for Xmas... but we'll definitely be back in January.

Hi Elle, i'll look out for Transylvania when i'm there next year sounds good, we use all the restaurants in that spot which i think is called La Mulata?? , theres the Argentino , the Tapas restaurant , the Italian and Mirador del Lobos and all are brilliant , we saw that Manea bar had just opened and it looks a good place to go , has Transylvania taken over the empty unit at the end? or has it replaced the one of the ones listed above?
we've got 11 nights in PB next year so even more places to try and so far in 3 seperate weeks holidays we have not had one bad meal.

Yes all the ones you mentioned are still there Andy. Transylvania is the first one on the opposite side of the stairs to La Campana (the Italian). And as you go down those stairs, Manea is on the left. Well worth popping in for a drink or five after you've eaten. We've been a couple of times now, and it really is chilled out in there. It's just so different to everything else in PB. We love the bars and restaurants here - but it's nice (as residents) to get something a bit different now and again - and both Manea and Transylvania have that in bucketloads. Am now craving mititei again... so another visit may be in order!

Oh, and also in that area (yes it's called La Mulata) is Pinxtos. A great place for tapas overlooking the water. It was one of the first places we tried tapas here - and it remains the best (only my opnion of course)

Glad you're heading back over again. Playa Blanca ain't bad is it?

Nigel - the Slow Boat gets consistently good reviews. We haven't been yet, but friends of ours won't eat Chinese food anywhere else. As for Indian food... try the Zaffran... just past the Biosfera as you head towards the Old Town. Or Casa Siam which is damn fine Thai food. http://www.casasiam.com

Personally my favourite Indian is Indian Tandoor House, but that's in Playa Blanca. Both hubby and I reckon is the best we've had (and he's from "oop Norf" which apparently makes him an expert lol. I know they deliver to PDC though (for free) if over a certain amount. http://www.indiantandoorhouse-lanzarote.co.uk Oh, but watch the green chillies he uses too... damn they're hot! Oh well... just another excuse to order another large beer eh?!

Have a good time in PdC - and let us know which Indian and Chinese you liked the best!

Thanks Elle, we've tried Pinxtos, i had a steak and it was spot on , we went back a couple of days later and it was just as impressive, i've found that many locals use those restaurants and it was busy, we were the only english people in there and i kind off like that.
We just love the restaurants in PB and the resort has such a relaxed, laid back feel it really is such a good all-round holiday.
We've also tried the Indian in PB (its in the middle of town with a few steps up?) and that was really good food with excellent service.

Bocaina was good and its always busy when you go past, will have to try Brisa Marina next time, our biggest problem is we run out of nights instead of places to go!! :(
Thanks for the tips
