If you are only coming short term than your three month visa which you pay a tenner for at the airport will suffice, this can be extended by whipping off to Rhodes or Cyprus and getting the passport restamped. However if you are coming long term you will need to get a residents permit, for this you will need a rental contract or a title deed (Tapu) for a house/ flat etc. Advice is come in on the three month visa and get it done here in the last month of that three month period dont go to london and pay 80 quid for the paperwork there because they make you do it again here, there is lots about this on other expat forums. The process then involves making a statement in turkish of your intent to live here and request for permit paying the dosh and getting issued the permit. Usually done at local police center (emniyet), which here in Antalya is inUncalli, but dont know where you are going. Have plenty of passport size photos(7+) and photocopies of your passport (3)to hand when you do it. Please note that usually near your emniyet you will usually find someone typing up the words in turkish for a few notes and also note that the prices for the permit have risen lately ( not sure of price )and its best to get a long one 3 or 5 years, purely because you dont have to keeping going back and playing the game. Best of luck with it and if you are coming to Antalya let me know and I will try and help you.

In Marmaris its the Rhodes ferry seaport, and ask for passport police. It costs about 800 ytl for the whole process and invoves several trips aound town to differents offices. All of which are shut between 12 and 1.30. Also you will be without your passport for the whole process so take some photo copies. There are people that will do the whole process for you but charge 200 ytl for their services.

As Bryn says there is lots of information on other sites as well as this one. Its time consuming reading them but well worth it. All of this good advice comes from peoples' personal experiences

Don't go to the consulate in London, waste of time and also a very complicated way to spend £80.

In Antalya the process for a residence permit is very quick, a few days or a week or two only and you get to keep your passport. In Mugla you will lose your passport for up to 3 months. Same country different rules!

Good luck and stick at it. Its worth it in the end.

to extend your visa apply to the local emniyet müdürlüğü..security department (pronounce it moodooloo) they will give you the application form, tell you the amount of vergi (tax) you must pay at the local vergi dairesi..tax office.. the amount will depend on the length of visa you want ie 3months 6 months a year etc
The form you fill in will have your address in Turkey and an address for your own country. you will also need evidence that you can support yourself while here bank account statement etc..
you will need 4 passport size photos
and 2 photocopies of your passport.
hope this helps.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone.
Anybody got any ides how long it is currently taking to get a residency permit fom either a local police staion Dalaman, Ortaca or dalyan? If anyone has gone directly to Mugla police station, how long has it taken to get the all important permit? Is it feasable to expect to get it within 14 days?
Thankyou
