Had the fish in Floyds Hut a couple of times this year. Was a bit surprised at the price.500 rupees for tandoori Kingfish. Now I am no expert but I thought that seafood would be cheap in Goa with so many fishing boats bringing the daily catch in.
It was very nice though and I am sure some more enlightened members will provede an explanation of the price.

Papa
We decided we wanted to try something more "local" when we were there. We spent a lovely evening with the couple who own Shooters, Bev and Barry and asked them for a recommendation. They told us to try Nandinis on Baga Road, next to Eclipse Bar. Bev did ask me how local we were looking for before she made the recommendation. When we arrived there the following night I realised why she had asked that It was a take away for the locals. It has a few tables. We thought- what the heck, lets give it a go! Glad we did. We had a beautiful chicken tikka and two others dishes( one was chicken handi, can't remember the other one), rice and some fab naan bread, a kingfisher and a coke- all for £4.50. Its worth a go everyone
Fiona, did you get to Souymens Kitchen?
Another 'real local' cheapy Fiona Chopsticks, just almost opp Infantaria.great food!! so cheap too and open till 6am!!
Gemma, we went to Souymens Kitchen. Best fillet steak I've ever tasted!
Glad you enjoyed it Spinner. It must the No 1 restaurant in North Goa at the moment.
We didn't try Souymens Kitchen. We did look at the menu but there were no Indian dishes on it so we gave it a miss. We might have tried it if we had had longer.
When I became a bit better and started to eat a bit again I found my tastebuds were not 'normal' and the only things I fancied were plain western food, so I was looking at menus for fish and chips, steak and chips etc
Even found myself in the chippy in Calangute , never mind will get plenty of curry at Xmas
we ate at souymens kitchen, excellent meal and service. definately the best meal we had all holiday. well worth that little bit extra cost
We ate at Soumyens Kitchen several times. Best fillet steak ever! The restaurant is in a lovely setting and is very clean. You can see right into the kitchen. Soumyen prides himself on good food and cleansliness. The table cloths & napkins are the whitest I've seen! You have to try it. It's always quite full so you may need to book. Tracy
I'm inclined to not compile a list of top restaurants to front next season's restaurant thread. Looking at the ones we have for the beginning of this season, there would be quite a few changes to that list now. After 7 and Inferno being the most obvious ones. Its probably best just to see how restaurants are at the beginning of the new season- after all a new chef makes all the difference to a place doesn't it?
we all have our favourites. We loved Moonlight, cactus shepards pie, rams carvery in candolim, viva goa in calangute, kim faa, domingos, nita's in baga and all spice in arpora-as well as loads of beach shacks especially pete's shack, candolim.
I must be the only H.T.'er who doesn't know where Soumyens Kitchen is despite this being my 6th visit to Goa...can someone give me directions (before Saturday!!) - As it's the end of the season I'm hoping there won't be excessive queues......Ta.
Head from Calengute towards Candolim - when you reach the turn off for After 7 Slow down - you will pass kebabs and curries and Over the flames on your left - just past this you will see a sign hanging above the road for Soueymens kitchen - turn down this little side road and its just on your right about 100 yards down. Best to book a table - 0091 832 227 6160
If you are going for two weeks you might be as well to go nearer the beginning of your holiday. I flew out last year on 16 April and I found near the end of my fortnight that a lot of the restaurants had closed up for the season ie. East Meets West, I-95 and a few others.
Enjoy yourself and you wont be disappointed in Souymens Kitchen it is fantastic.
turn down this little side road and its just on your right about 100 yards down.

Its about 50 yards down this quite road on the right hand side. You will find it no bother.
Come on guys - which is it?
Don't worry Max.......I've got the general area now and will find it no bother. Thanks Gaz & Gemma. The number of yards down the road is always inversely proportional to the number of Honeybees consumed
We all know a mans 12" equals a womans 6"
