after 9 visits to Goa ( mainly in the south ) I can say by far the worsed meal we have had in the north and in the south was at Martins corner, it was vile

Lynn I have heard that before about Martins Corner - I was going to give it the benefit of the doubt and go there this year. Is it really that bad?

Ill echo:

Goanvillage
Riverview ( best IMO)
Fishermans Wharf
Bettys - although we had very poor service whilst at Bettys it wouldn't put me off going again this year.

Didnt try Mikes Place ,PalmGrove Johncys or Joecons but will this visit.

I agree with Lyn. I hate being hovered over whilst eating and each time we have been there this has happened. The food is nothing special in my opinion.

We often go to Sun'n'Moon by the Taj Exotica and always enjoy.

We ate at the Sun & Moon shack on numerous occasions last time we were in Goa and never had a bad meal. Looking forward to revisiting this year.

We have had three stays in the south and the first year we went to Martins Corner three times.

Each time both the food and the service was good. However, during our second visit to the south, we had just the one meal there.

When we arrived we were given menus and asked if we wanted drinks, so we ordered some (in total I had two cocktails and himself had a couple of beers - one bottle of water between us). They took about ten minutes to arrive and as it was hot and humid, I was spitting feathers by the time they arrived.

There were plenty of waiters walking about, but they didn't seem to be doing anything.

About twenty five minutes after arriving, somebody actually asked us what we wanted to eat. Another 45 minutes later the food arrived (not a bad thing really, as the food was good from fresh). The food was nice (we had Lobster Thermidor as a main course) however, the size of the Lobster was a heck of a lot smaller than we had been used to in Goa and the cost us a heck of a lot more than we were used to as well (it had gone up significantly from the previous year when we ate there). It isn't that we minded paying more as the meal was meant to be a treat, however, we did mind paying more for what was actually less if you see what I mean. The cost of the meal including drinks and excluding a small tip was around £30.

Not only that, by the time the food arrived, I was drunk because I had been drinking on an empty stomach.

We didn't go there when we were in Goa in March as we ate a lot in Fusion (near the Majorda Beach).

However, as this will be our fourth visit to the south, we have decided to give them one last chance just in case our last visit to Martin's Corner was just a one off bad experience.

Following on from other comments about Martins Corner, it is ok, but only that. The meals we had weren't the best.

I would like to recommend the following:

Joecons - but it is a little more pricey
Sun & Moon at Varca, although the Sun & Moon near the Taj is owned by the same people (mamma in Varca, Son at the one near the Taj)
Mishas - Varca
Mikes Place in Cavelossim
Goan Village, just abit further down than Mikes. The owner Edwin is Mikes cousin.
Bettys Place in cavelossim

Hope this helps. I am missing my Goan trip this year :( but hope to be returning in the not too distant future.

Gaffino's (excellent - after 3 weeks when you are just dying for something 'English' - yes I know that is sad but - a chip butty or preorder a roast pork dinner - wow!!)

Vinny's

Gaffinos

Goan Village

Gaffinos

(Oh guess where we are staying this Xmas and new Year??)

On Christmas day we will be having lobster on the beach at the Seagull Inn at Varca (Beach shack owned by Glorio and Alzira - just before you get to the Ramarda) hopefully watching the dolphins play just out to sea before going back to change for the gala held at the Mobor Beach. Paradise or what???? Who needs snow, Xmas TV, etc etc
