Can anyone give me some information on how the buffet meals work . Do they give you a time allocation that you can use the restaurant. If not can you let me know the times that it is open for all the meals.
The reason for asking is that one of our party has just been diagnosed with diabetes and will now have to eat at regular intervals and it would be good for us to know before travelling.
Don't want any problems when we are away.
Thanks

Got back last week, we had a lovely time, we had a swim up room on activity side. Rooms were lovely, but we only had sun on our balcony until 1pm, so we would then either go to waterpark or find a spare sunbed.

Would go back, but in a few years time. I prefer June to go, it was very busy last week with the start of the Scottish summer holidays, so not sure how much busier it would get in August.

Beanies

Restaurant for buffet is open 7-10am 12.30 - 14.30 and 6.30 - 10.00pm
Snack bar opens at 11am until 5pm.

Not to unduly worry anyone but i think people should be aware that currently a few people are suffering from sickness at HV Rhodes. check out the facebook group Rhodes Holiday Village.

We're thinking of booking for next May, apart from the brochure pictures and some photos on trip advisor, does anyone have any photos of the delux swim up rooms?

:cheers

yes it is a closed group but there is also an open one now that you can join and a general holiday village group you can join. Apparently there are over a hundred people coming down with a mystery bug and to be honest, once I was so upset to have been cancelled from this holiday I am now starting to feel I had the luckiest escape ever!!! :0)

A hundred people? Are you sure?

If so, I would suggest you post on the open group (i'm not a member) that someone needs to contact the hosipital in Rhodes Town and make sure the public health officer is aware of this. What sometimes happens is something like food poisoning occurs, the hotel calls in their 'hotel doctor' who suggests it is not food poisoning and does not report it to the health authorities.

This happened some years ago in one of the big hotels on the west coast and it was only after a guest took his wife in a taxi to the hospital that a doctor at the hospital picked up on what was going on. The hotel was closed down the same day and all guests had to be relocated immediately. As you can imagine, neither the hotel nor the tour companies involved were very happy with that.

I am not trying to be alarmist but if in fact 100 people are ill, something is definitely wrong but that doesn't mean the proper authorities are aware of it. There are vested interests who MAY try to keep it quiet.

Differing levels of info, Ron. Some say 100 people, some say 32 people, others say 32 rooms, FC agree there was a problem but have had 'no new cases' reported. Some people who have just returned home say they reported sickness yesterday or Saturday and had to have injections to fly them home. FC Rep says other hotels in Rhodes are also affected but that info has only come from FC and their is no evidence of this from any other sources.
We wait for further info

I'm here just now, abusing the free WiFi. Some independent inspectors arrived today and checked out the various kitchens and other areas. My wife came down with the bug and had 24 hours of serious wretching, I would suggest 100 cases is a conservative estimate, last Friday, at least 5 ambulances came to the deluxe side of the HV(the smaller of the 3 sides) some took 2 people away at a time, most were kids. although dehydration was the worst fear, a lot of folk were just sick, no diahorrea, and a few folk we spoke to DID NOT report it to the reps.
Hopefully it will pass over and not last all summer.

Cheers for the update, John. Hope you stay well mate.

First Choice are saying its an airbourne virus affecting the whole island.
Strange no one here is ill.

I am not permitted to post a link here to Trip Advisor. This illness is mentioned in Reviews posted on 19th July. Someone from Scotland talked about First Choice saying its an airborne virus

One or two on Facebook have said builders went through a pipe and sewage spewed out, the day before all the sickness started. I asked the FC rep on the Facebook page about it and he said "I would treat that as a rumour"..
Just wondering if this is a 'rumour' too?

you have to wonder why they are still working any where near the pipes 3 months after opening? Even back in May they were digging around the pipes near the swim club pool.

I must say i am suprised that FC are trying to paint it as a island wide problem when it doesn't even appear to be HV wide (only affecting deluxe/relax side) and can't find any other illness problems for any other Rhodes or even Kolymbia hotels.

It will be interesting to see what the reviews are for the Aegean Blue and other Atlantica hotels to see if they have suffered a similar fate as the HV people.

I can't access trip advisor through my phone so will read when I get home tomorrow, but, I can confirm that the mains water was off for a couple of hours during the day before all this started, either wednesday or thursday (holiday mode and i'm not sure what day's which), I can also confirm there has been digging by labourers and something looking like a water valve or pump was installed.
FC reps have played their cards very close to their chests, won't confirm how many were affected etc, tried blaming it on an island wide problem but others we have spoke to outside the complex are none the wiser.
Precautions were taken such as alcohol gel throughout communal toilets and eating areas.
Things calmed down over the weekend but poolside gossip revealed a few more cases developed today.
The majority of people affected had chronic vomitting with diaorrhea but a significant minority required medical attention due to dehydration, mostly kids, hence the ambulances and cars full of private nurses.
