Just returned from Riga last Thursday.
Had a Fabulous time, beautiful city & people. Avoided the strip clubs so didnt get a beating like the lone Scouser from our flight we bumped into on the 2nd day.
If you attract trouble you are CERTAIN to get it.
Went to the Lido on the last day, weather was beautiful, food & beer couldnt be faulted, nicest ribs i ever ate in my life.
Only real problem we had was with beggars, Riga seems to have more than its fair share. But a Firm "GO AWAY" usually sufficed. Wasnt best pleased with the area our hotel was in (Best Hotel on Gimnasikas Iela) nice Hotel, very poor area but we didnt get a problem even when we went for a late night walk to get something to eat in a local supermarket.
The transport system is 2nd to none, tram, trolley bus, bus - any journey 0.20lats & regular as clockwork with helpful friendly staff/passengers despite the language barrier.
If your a knobhead dont go to Riga! You wont like Latvians & they defo wont like you
If your sensible & show respect you wont find a nicer city/people
