Myself and Hubby have booked to go here for 2 weeks flying 12 Dec, so we'll be there for Christmas day, Can't wait.
Can anybody tell me what to expect weather wise and also is it best to just bring dollars out with us.
Thanks
Tracy

Hi! Can anyone tell me if Riu Caribe has a dress code .. eg - men have to wear long trousers etc, other half won't be best pleased if there is
I've read the reviews on the hotel but just wondering if there is anybody who has visited this hotel recently - We have booked up for late November/early December 2008.
Thanks
Stevie
Haven't been to this particular hotel before so I can';t be certain about the dress code. What I will say is that we have visited Riu hotels (including the Riu Palace in Mexico) which do have a dress code but no-one adheres to it. We were told that the gents had to wear long trousers to dinner which our men put on with much persuasion from us only to turn up at the restaurant to find mumerous others in three quarter trousers and even smart shorts. They weren't too pleased with us I can tell you. I think that as long as you look as though you've made a bit of an effort you'll be fine.
i hope i can be of some help..
i have just returned from a 2 week holiday with my family (ages 42, 41, 21, 17).
to summarise .....
hotel is great.
food is ok but they have real trouble keeping it warm. most of my meals in the main "albatross" restaurant were luke warm.
mexican restuarant - went once and wish i hadn't bothered. food was cooked in the main "albatross" restaurant and walked through. also the menu is the same every night. once again luke warm.
asian restaurtant - they portray as an al a carte but when was the last time you went to one of these and had to help yourself from bowls of luke warm offerings that were probably cooked over an hour ago.
Pizza bar in the daytime is absolutely A1 ! - see, i'm not all negative.
ONE MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR BUG BEAR IS THE "ENTERTAINERS" - let me explain.....
When you dont want them ie when you are relaxing on your sunbed during the day, they pester you to play volleyball, pool games etc....
BUT .. when you do want them ie. in the evening when you have finished your dinnner (10pm) (restaurant open till 10:30) you go into the lobby bar and all they do EVERY NIGHT is PESTER guests to go to a nightclub - dont worry, they will only charge you $40 when the actual entrance fee is $20!
What i am trying to say is that after 10:30pm when the "local entertainer!" finishes the place is silent bacause all the staff entertainers go to a differnet club each night. in my view they are taking guests out of the hotel when THEY should be providing entertainment!
to further illustrate this, one night a Kareoke evening was advertised during the day. that night, the lobby bar was absolutely full (never been seen and abviously as a resuly of the Kareoke night.)
the kareoke started at 9:00pm and the parasites (oops sorry, entertainers) were already anouncing which club they were taking the guests to !! IN FACT THEY START THEIR ADVERTS TO THE EVENINGS CLUB VISIT BEFORE NOON AROUND THE POOL!
by 10pm the kareoke was in full flow and considering this is a 24hr hotel this should have continued till at least midnight. you guessed! at 22:25pm the lovely entertainers came on stage and stopped the fun, packed up the equipment (not before anouncing the trip to club again!). as soon as the kareoke stopped the place emptied.
THAT IS WHAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH. THEY HAVE A VESTED INTEREST IN GETTING YOU OUT OF THE HOTEL WHEN YOU MAY BE IN THE MOOD FOR A COUPLE OF DRINKS, BUT THEY PULL THE RUG FROM UNDER YOU AND TRY TO GET YOU OUT OF THERE INTO A SEEDY CLUB.
THE BEST THING IS, I WATCHED THEM GO ON SEVERAL NIGHTS AND THE LOUSY "HOSTS" SNEEK BACK INTO THE HOTEL A HALF HOUR LATER LEAVING ALL "THEIR" GUESTS STRANDED!!
And to finish - there is NO SUCH THING AS INTERNATIONAL SPIRITS - I know my Smirnoff Vodka and always suspected it wasnt what i had ordered although it came out of a Smirnoff bottle. What I witnessed on my last night at the lobby bar was shocking. the bar man was filling Smirnoff bottles with the local brew! when i challenged him he just shruged his shoulders.
All in all, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Would never visit again and hope that you take my comments into accout.
Riu Caribe in january this year and it was fantastic, we went with First Choice and paid £1100 which included all our taxes.
honestly it was worth every penny, you will not regreat it.go and have a great time, we did.
the year before we went to a different hotel in mexico and we upgraded to preimier seats, we only paid about £180 each due to use leaving it whilst the last minute to ask about them, when we went this time we did not have them, just normal seats and it did not bother us at all, to be honest with you the only thing we missed was priorety check in.
