I am going to these four places in the summer on a three week holiday with my girlfriend. Being only students we have booked all budget accomodation. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a bit about our hotels. ie. Quality, cleanliness, location etc.
San Francisco - Best Western Flamingo Inn (5 nights)
Los Angeles - Best Western Holywood Plaza Inn (6 nights)
Las Vegas - Howard Johnson Inn(Las Vegas Strip) (4 nights)
New York - (Salisbury Hotel) (7 nights)
Any help would be much appreciated!!
I've posted a review in the 'Hotel Reviews' section which says the following:
Even though the hotel has seen better days:
- it's in a great location
- it's clean
- it's cheap
- the bedrooms are huge, and
- the 57th Street subway station is only a few minutes walk away.
There are lots of places to eat nearby - we ate a delicious pizza in Angelos Italian restaurant, which is two doors away from hotel. We also had breakfast one day in the Green Cafe, again a few doors away from the hotel. Across the road is the Le Parker Meridian hotel and we had a fantastic, although pricey, breakfast in Norma's there one morning.
If you don't want to leave the hotel, a booklet is provided in your room which lists the restaurants who'll deliver directly to your room. Although we didn't use the service, it's an excellent idea!
We booked through Virgin Holidays and the $3 breakfast was included in the price - we weren't told this when we booked the holiday or when we checked in, so if you're travelling with a travel agent, check on arrival if it's included. If we'd known, we would have probably ate there a few more times during our stay or just popped down for a coffee before heading out.
Just a few quibbles:
- The shower's temperature fluctuated quite a bit - one minute it was hot, the next it was cold!
- The staff were okay - not particularly friendly, but then again, not rude either... just average
- As there are only two lifts, it meant that there were queues for them at busy times of the day.
So to sum up, if you want somewhere cheap, clean and central to stay in New York, it's worth checking out the Salisbury.
Enjoy your trip - it sounds fantastic!

Have a look over on trip advisor and search for hotel reviews there should be some candid traveller photos as well which will give you a better idea.
