Hi,
Does anyone know of a hotel or apart-hotel in the Santa Eulalia area which has Cartoon Network channel on the satellite TV in the bedrooms?
My son has a form of autism and will only stay in a hotel if he can watch Cartoon Network for at least part of the day.
I have already phoned about 20 hotels in the area which say they have satellite TV in the rooms, but when I checked, they only have news and sports channels. One or two hotels have a TV room with Cartoon Network but he doesn't like to be in busy, noisy areas on his own.
I know we could take a DVD player but that's not what he wants, it has to be Cartoon Network and if he isn't happy, I can't relax and enjoy my holiday, and I really want to go to Santa Eulalia, so please can anyone help?
If there aren't any in Santa Eulalia, info on hotels in other areas would also be welcome.
Thanks,
Toni.
think you will be pushing it to find on.stick to the hotels that have Cartoon Network but he doesn't like to be in busy, noisy areas on his own.its all down to money.
How about getting somebody to record Cartoon Network then burning it to DVD ?
Thanks for your replies and suggestions, I'm still working on it, but am now also considering other holiday destinations where this channel is more freely available within the bedrooms.
ok you best bet then is to find a hotel thats got wifi.and take your laptop.that way you can get bbciplayer and watch cbbc and cbeebies.plus you can watch a few programes as well.thats the only way you gonna get round it.
I don't think BBCiplayer works outside the UK. I know the ITV Catch Up one doesn't.
Rights agreements mean that BBC iPlayer television programmes are only available to users to download or stream (Click to Play) in the UK. However, BBC Worldwide is working on an international version, which we will make available as soon as possible.
most of the british telly channels you would like to watch are legally unavailable outside the uk either by satellite or broadband. there are of course ways around this - quite easy if you are british and still have a british address and bank account in the uk. however most hotels in spain do not have this option and are restricted on the satellite channels they can receive. it's quite easy to tell which houses and bars are british owned round here as they all have enormous satellite dishes to pull down a signal from the weaker channels.
I have Asperger's Syndrome (hence the username!) so I sympathise with your situation. It's a very long shot as Internet access will no doubt be difficult to come by but have you heard of the Slingbox? Basically it's a box that allows you to watch TV anywhere in the world. You would need a reliable Internet connection on both sides for this to work though.
Hi 'Eternal Outsider', it's actually a form of Aspergers my son has, so you will of course have an idea of how he feels. He's 20 and very mature and intelligent in many ways but very fixed and unflexible in others! It keeps him happy to be able to just dip into Cartoon Network or have it on in the background rather than sit down and watch full length movies when on holiday.
We had the channel on the first European holiday we went on when he was much younger and have had it since in other hotels, so he associates it with holidays and finds it dificullt to accept that there aren't any hotels in Santa Eulalia with it (but then, so do I really - why not?!). It's not just Sta Eulalia anyway, I've now phoned several other hotels in different parts of Ibiza but still get the same response.
I haven't heard about the Slingbox before but just googled it and it sounds a bit complicated for my un-technological mind! A few hotels have internet connection in the rooms (one in Sta Eulalia is La Cala) but they charge 18 euros a day which would be £100 for the week and I'm not sure it would be a reliable enough connection to pick up the signals.
Thanks for the info anyway, maybe I'll look into it further.

Licensing - pure and simple. It is illegal to receive British SKY broadcasts in Spain. That doesn't mean that British owned pubs and bars don't register their box/card in the UK and use it here; they all do. However, the Hotels, unless they are British owned (I don't know of any) do not have the facility of a British address so any TV that they have will be Spanish.
Also bear in mind that this is a holiday resort, with beaches and blue skies & sunshine throughout the summer so there is not much demand for TV here. Everybody is outside for the bulk of the day.
