thanks for that snowey,i shall phone portland direct to see if they can help me.Didnt get any where with thompson.They said there was no building work going on at all near the hotel.I had the holiday from hell last year and really dont want this one to be,as this hotel has got great reviews anyway thanks again for your help

Just had a phone call from thompson.They said the building work should finish 16 june till sept.If it doesnt they they will change my holiday free of change.So i feel so much better now.I shall keep looking on this web page for more information.Thanks again for all your help

Hi snowey when i phoned portland direct they also told me no building work was going on near the hotel.I phoned thompson again and they said the same ,but gave my another number to call.I did this and they were very helpful and said there was building work but should be finshed on the 16 june

Had a great time, really enjoyed the grand prix. Weather was better than expected as well. Re the building work. They are building two apartment blocks, one directly opposite the Santa Monica and the other just up the road. The one opposite is at a more advanced stage, approx 4 storeys high. There was no problem with dust, there was some noise, but this was periodic banging and crashing rather than constant machine noise. There was also a couple of visits by a concrete pumping machine. We were around the side of the hotel and didn't particularly here any noise from the building work. The work didn't start early and finished around tea time. We had a couple of days beside the pool and although the noise is noticable we did not find it intrusive, although others may.
Took a couple of pictures of the work but I dont know how to post on the site or if I can. Perhaps someone could post a reply to advise me.
Overall we thought the Hotel was great value for money and the building work did not spoil our holiday.

what we have been told by Portland hols. Their letter to us on the 17 th
April, stated that they had just been told by their staff in Callela that this
work had just started

Believe it there is building work near the hotel and yes you willbe able to see it from the hotel, dont know about the work stopping in june!!!!!

Just arrived back from this hotel litterally this morning. The hotel was fantastic, agree with the comment about the food very nice and always hot. Wide variety too. The rooms may have been a little basic but you spend most of your time either out in the town or at the beach?poolside. The staff are really friendly and we made a lot of new friends.
The entertainment in the evening is varied with typical Spanish Flamenco dancing to entertainment put on by the team in the hotel itself.
Plenty for kids to do with kids club during the day and also a mini disco and games at night.
Would definately recommend this hotel to anyone.
There is currently building work as was posted in a previous forum, but you get no dust an the nosie is only sounds of banging of hammers which stop about 5/6pm no later.
