Hey guys, my first post here.
Me and missus are planning a 10 day last minute trip to either canaries, ibiza or somewhere in greece leaving in two weeks time. Still haven't booked, hunting for a good bargain.
I'm thinking of getting a self catering or room only so as to push the prices as further down as possible. And when we get there, upgrade to All Inclusive, so as to cut the commision that the travel agency would have gotten flogging me the AI at an exorbitant price. Now I've never done this before, so my question to all you guys out there is that do hotels allow it? If so, roughly how much they charge for the upgrade?
Is it better to book AI with the travel agency, because I can see both sides of the coin. Since when we're there, we are at the mercy of the hotel to give us an upgrade, so the hotel then might charge a higher price that the travel agency would've. Do you guys think this is a credible theory?
first thing to do is make sure the hotel you book can do AI.. most will upgrade from HB [if they do it] try looking at people like Fleetway travel,A1 Travel Travel republic they are all used by members from time to time and they build the holiday for you, Fleetway issue ATOL certificates if you purchase hotel and flight at the same time
yes, the plan is to look for a hotel that does SC thorough to AI.
The only place we have stayed in where you could do this was the Suite Hotel Castillo San Jorge in Costa Caleta Fueteventura . We stayed room only and didnt upgrade. The only way your going to know if by getting a price here then emailing the hotel to see the price difference, you may be suprised and find it cheaper from here.
The hotel does offer AI basis so I contacted the hotel directly to find out what the cost was. They offered AI (including lunch and drinks) or an AI drinks package only.
It was cheaper for us to take the AI offer with the hotel than book it on the tour operator website. But I think it's probably swings and roundabouts depending on where you go and who you book with...
Thanks for the input guys. We ended up doing a DIY holiday to Lanzarote AI (cheaper than the cheapest on icelolly). We thought it wasn't worth risking not being able to get an AI upgrade at the hotel.
