Has anyone got a suggestion on how to stop some low life pinching my petrol out of my scooter outside my apartment ? 2 full tanks have gone now and i am now just filling up with a litre out of the 5 litre i have in my apartment .Scooter is now parked outside my bedroom but they are still emptying it ! I did bring a locking universal locking petrol cap but its only good for cars.
Now if some one invented or sold a locking petrol cap for scooters they would make huge cash here.
Caught someone last night trying to take my washing off my washing line ! and they were white couple !
1st and last ground floor apartment i would ever rent . And i am staying at a complex with the sleeping night guard
The car i had before i bought my new car a few months ago failed an MOT because the petrol cap could be opened when the car was locked without the key.
Is there no way you could sell the scooter you have now and buy a scooter with a petrol cap that locks, or are all scooters like that?
It is so easy to steal the petrol from scooters - the lock on the seat is simple to open so up goes the seat and there is the petrol cap. We were shown how to do it in case anything happened to the keys and we had things in the compartment under the seat.
Moral is don't leave anything in there when you park the scooter when you are out and about like a camera, valuables etc.
Locking petrol caps - a screwdriver and hammer to that gets it open
I know someone here in the UK who leaves his car unlocked, so if a robber happens to check his car first, then that would mean the robber wouldnt smash his window to gain entry.
If i were in the same situation as the OP, i would be greatly miffed off, but i wouldnt leave any petrol in overnight. I would try and fill up on a daily basis, rather than once a week.
Go into Panjiim and walk upto the cinema straight up from where the it docks. There is a light shop that sells fancy and designer lights. Its just before the round a about at the top of 18th June Road. For around IRPs 800 to 1200, you can buy a floodlight with a motion detector. Thats what i used in Candolim. It was the local kids swiping it in the night. Another alternative is to get some one who is coming to Goa and ask them to get you one from Argos. They cost £8.00.
If I were you I'd adulterate the fuel in the tank and leave it for them to steal and use....
Long length of chain wrapped round the scooter so the seat can't be lifted up then padlocked.
Something nasty stuck to the petrol cap, like razor blades or sewage. Replace it with another on each morning.
Scooters seem to run okay on it, but an Enfield is wiped out after about a mile and thre's no alternative except to drain the tank and seek out some genine petrol.
It helps of you know where to get petrol in the first place , and saves hours of anger trying to kick the the machine into life; then there's the marital divorce which just moved a few milliseconds closer.
All part of the fun. Truly.

white people commit crime shock!! what a racist comment to make. Maybe a bit off topic, but i found the amount of racism from some longtermers (as thats who was there at the time) this year absolutely astounding. Why go to India if you hate the Indians, blacks, pakistanis etc.
They get into the petrol tank from behind the number plate and get the cable that runs from the key lock to the catch that opens the seat.
Been told Belagum < sorry wrong spelling > i can get a locking petrol cap for scooters.
I have 2 strip lights outside that are switched on at 6pm so my bedroom and living room outside space is well lighted up and i park the scooter outside bedroom window. I did think of putting chilli powder or superglue on petrol cap .
I am just putting in a litre at a time now from a 5 litre bottle.
Thanks everyone for suggestions

I bought some chain from Mapusa market and wrapped it under the bike and across the saddle and then used the small padlock off my case to lock it. Didn't get any stolen after that.
Annoying or what?
Martin d
completely out of order
the man wasnt in any way being racist
why mention their skin colour then?

no way this is racist.....
I was told we Scots are termed as jockroach when i was in Calangute March this year and believe it or not the person who made the remark was black.....is that Racist?
sorry for the off topic.
if you find its necessary to try and upset someone with such a pathetic personal assumption...why dont you for everyones sake on this site....please stop posting, and go find another site where you can spout your views...
It seems to be populated by an increasing number of malcontents who just want to whinge, take offence at the least thing and generally pick arguments.
To accuse "longtermers" as racist is laughable and doesn't even deserve a response.

I can't see where you get the impression that this website is going down the tubes. There are lots of discussion forums that are providing useful information without resorting to petty arguments.. HT isn't just for Goa.

Personally, I DO think people who stay long-term in ANY country or even live permanently in another country can still be racist.
Sometimes, they find an ex-pat community and just don't wish to integrate into the country they're in.
If you have a racist viewpoint here in the UK, you can still take that bigotry with you, wherever you go.
I'm not saying that is the case with imho, I read the post and didn't even bat an eyelid with the words he/she used.
Judith, I agree with you.
Like you, I post on a number of other sub-forums here, and I try to give and often receive valuable advice.
Just a small minority of members try to spoil things for the majority. Goa isnt on its own with heated discussions.
