Just back from two weeks Club la Costa Paradise, having been joined in the second week by our daughter and friend who stayed in a seperate apartment. On arrival we were allocated a ground floor/ pool side apartment but requested a change because of our concerns about security - which were somewhat dismissed by staff. Our daughter was in a ground floor apartment and had her handbag/ money etc stolen while asleep - also stolen were jeans, wallet, mobile phone and credit cards belonging to the other person. They were really spooked about what could have happened if they had disturbed the thief. Although the staff were great re getting the police, changing key cards etc I was concerned to learn this was the third such event in two weeks - but guests were not being advised to be extra careful.
Please be warned - and if you have any concerns about the security of your accomodation ask for a change and make sure those doors and windows are locked - at all times![/i]
If you cannot sleep easy even with doors and windows locked, that is a very sad state of affairs
Unfortunately even taking all the recommended precautions may not be enough. We were broken in a top floor room in the Mediterranean Palace. We had hired a safe and the balcony door was locked. We found the balcony door forced open and the safe in bits - It had come apart very easily it would seem. This was all in broad daylight at about 12 midday. Whilst the hotel did all that they could, the experience will live with me forever. We now carry all valuables on us (and we really limit what we take on holiday now) - at least nobody will get them without a fight.
