Hi
We are planning a holiday in Crete next year and are still pondering over hotels.
However, I really like to have the chance to shop on holiday - can anyone comment on the shopping in crete and the types of goods available?
Having just got back from Turkey I loved the markets and shops. Don't get me wrong, I dont go on holiday simply to shop but like to have one or two days out shopping!
Many Thanks
Gemma
Only one place to go for shopping - Hania! Pottery, food, drink, arts and crafts!
Many thanks - I'll bare this in mind.
Hania's also got a big covered market - which sells mainly foodstuffs - it's a mix of the touristy and the day to day. Heraklion's market area sells pretty much the same type of thing!
Good shopping, I particularly liked the silver jewlerry, lots of shops selling contemporary pieces. Also available are the designer copies (sunglasses, handbags etc). Chania is a great shopping area (Leather Alley) I also enjoyed Rethymnon, good cafes/restaurants there too.
I also like Chania for shopping. The undercover market was good for local type greek produce. Herbs, spices, nuts, fruit, sweets etc. There was a diversity to the shops that you don't always get in holiday towns. Leather alley was also good. It was nice that is was so near the harbour, so you could shop and then stop for a nice ice cream/coffee in an outdoor cafe.
