We are due to go to Hammamet on 9th April. Being the stereotypical woman, I love to shop. Make my day and tell me there's a market close by. Also any other shopping tips would be gratefully received. Is it like Turkey cheap fakes etc and leather bags ?

Hammamet's market day is Thursday. There's also Sidi Jedidi (about 20 mins away - louage, taxi or car if you've hired one) on Tuesday, and Nabeul on Friday.
There are lots of touristy shops around all selling pretty much the same sort of stuff, although some seem to be better than others. And yes you can get cheap fakes!! Not sure about the quality though. If memory serves me well the dior and luis vuitton logos seemed particularly popular.
In the centre of Hammamet, near the medina is a small shopping centre of sorts and although it's mostly touristy souvenir shops I do remember 1 decent clothes shop. And there are LOTS of shoe shops!!
Happy shopping!

Don't buy bags made with Camel leather, they really smell strong, it takes ages for the smell to disappear.
In my opinion the shopping in hammamet was ok. We made the 30 minute walk from our hotel to town straight into the medina which was extremely daunting. It was more like a maze with corridors rather than streets. The shops sold identical stuff mainly handbags camels, traditional Tunisian garments, fake trainers (which weren't that bad), drums, tunisian sweets, pottery and leather shoes. You could get a large leather holdall for about £15. The quality wasn't super there was a basic lining inside and no pockets. The pottery was lovely but the concern was getting home with it in one piece. Started at ashtrays etc for 40p. The sales men in Tunisia were in your face trying to get you into their shop if you just said no thanks they did leave you alone. They were very friendly but always out to make money. Things are very cheap but not always good quality mostly tat but hey on holiday who cares !!!
