I liked the fact that we were a very short distance from the restaurants. Some of the major hotels were a bit to far out for my liking although I'm sure we would have got around anyway.
Hotel looks great Fiona. Now on our ever increasing shortlist.
so its a longlist now

Decided on four nights stay in Siem Reap. Booked the Golden Temple Hotel.
It looks stunning
Always do Fiona.
We've just come back from a indochina trip (with voyages jules verne) , and spent four days in siem reap which was fantastic. We're planning on going back for three weeks and doing our own thing travelling to a few diiferent areas of Cambodia in 2013. Whats really interesting, is that we have said "perhaps we've found our new Goa". After 12 years visiting Goa, we thought we would try to find somewhere like Goa used to be, and looking at the names that are on this thread, great minds think alike! I'll love to hear how your trip goes Papa, we're a bit daunted arranging our own trip, accomodation etc, but im sure it will be interesting!
Glad to hear you had a great time Nanette
it was SO easy Nanette - I even found a tuk tuk driver online who picked us up when we landed at Siem Reapwe're a bit daunted arranging our own trip, accomodation etc, but im sure it will be interesting!
Some people could easily do a week but we thought 4 nights was enough.
We had an amazing time in Cambodia and will add hotel reviews if someone could add the following Hotels.
Golden temple Siem Reap
Blue Lime Phnom Penh

Papa
yes - we had 5 nights and it was probably about the right amount of time. However, liked the laid back night life and could have stayed longer just relaxing. Lovely place
Off to Siem Reap for 4 nights staying at Pavillion d'orient in 2 weeks.
Debs- to be honest we were getting to the stage of being templed out after 2 days. So you have plenty time
We are all different some people can do a week and find that not enough. We did two days and that was enough for us.
You cannot underestimate the heat, humidity and indeed the fact of how busy the temples are.
At some point you just need to get back to your hotel and get in the pool and cool down.
We consider ourselves to be reasonably well travelled although not as well as others and I have to say Cambodia was one of the most amazing places we have ever been.
Papa
On reflection I don't think hiking up and down temples when still jet lagged was the best thing to do What with that, the extreme humidity and my own health problems it was tiring. I have never in my life drunk as much as water in a day as I did on my first temple day! I would like to return. I also liked the small hotel we stayed at and the restaurants at night. Very relaxing after a busy day.
I had already been in Vietnam for about ten days when I got to Cambodia so I wasn't jet lagged but the heat and humidity still really got to me and I was happy to have a more relaxed day on the Tonle Sap lake in the middle of my visit and as Papa says it was great to get back to the hotel for a dip in the pool to cool off.
We visited in January. The humidity is not such an issue. The climate reminded us of Northern Thailand, sunny days but not scorching hot. Evenings cooler, and early mornings a slight nip in the air - good templing weather.
