Not sure if and when we'll get back to Australia but would love to hire a campervan and 'do our own thing'. The silly question is this - are the van sites close to the main cities, and if they are and you want to go into town, do you have to take the van with you or are there buses? Most campervan parks are on the out skirts of most towns and citys some would have buses going by in bigger citys
Most campervan parks have all there places numbered and they give you a number and its your place in the park for the time you payed for so you could take your campervan out for the day and come back to your site
Most of the campervan parks also have cabins in them also if you are interested
